What you need to DO! 🐴

PM Level 4 is the first level for which you need to be able to keep the horse with a steady contact on the bit during the dressage exam without the help of support reins. You will show a beginner dressage rider test (German level A). You demonstrate that you can give the correct aids and you have the feeling for right timing and intensity. You show extended gaits and show that your horse will stay on the bit even with longer reins. Important is the harmony between you and your horse.

During the jumping exam you ride a jumping equitation course with obstacles of 0,90 to 1,0 m in height. You demonstrate that you have a feeling for the correct rhythm and distance and you can manage the whole course in a steady rhythm and in harmony with your horse.
After your rides you can reflect on your riding performance and you show that you have familiarised yourself extensively with German riding theory and that you can apply it to your own performance.

In the station exams you show that know well about the rider’s fitness and training theory. You know about condition, coordination and other necessary skills that a rider should have and how to improve. In another station exam you show your knowledge about the use of different horse tack, how to put it on correctly and how to fit it. You are well aware of the safety aspects of horse tack and how to check for it.

What you need to DO! 🐴

In PM Level 6 - during the dressage exam you show a basic dressage test, alone or in pairs. You demonstrate that you can give basic riding aids correctly and you show good transitions. You can ride without stirrups in all gaits and stay subtle and balanced in your seat.

During the practical riding exam over and around obstacles you show that you can influence your horse with shortened stirrups in the light seat correctly. You demonstrate the course in an equal rhythm and harmonious style.

During the station exam “Groundwork” you present your horse on a triangular track and manage a groundwork course. Here correct body language and signals are important, as well as the harmony between you and your horse. You can present and introduce your horse correctly to the audience and judge.

In another station exam you show your knowledge horse feeding and feeding. You show that you know how to groom correctly and how to take care of a horse properly. You know about horse health and common horse diseases. You know well about the equipment for the horse and the rider.

What you need to DO! 🐴

PM 8 is all about the seat. During the dressage part of the practical riding exam, you show that you can ride independently with others on the arena and that you know the arena rules. You can ride without stirrups at least in walk. During the start-schooling part of the exam you ride with shortened stirrups and you show different variations of the seat during the agility course which you can manage in an easy and relaxed manner. You show that you are well-balanced in all positions.

In the station exam “ Knowledge”, you show that you know different horse breeds, colours, markings and you know the basic horse anatomy and conformation.

During the station exam “Groundwork” you show that you can walk your horse from both sides as well as control the step length and speed in walk. You have good control of your horse from the ground.

During the station exam “Riding Theory” you show that you know well about schooling figures, arena rules and riding in a group. You also can show different seat positions of the rider and how they should look correctly.

What you need to DO! 🐴

For PM 9 you need to be able to control the horse by yourself in all three gaits, walk, trot and canter.
The focus is on riding in a group, so you also need to be able to keep the distance to the other horses and determine the way of your horse. Basic schooling figures like 20m circle, changing through the diagonal and from one circle to another will be part of the exam and you show that you can ride these in well balanced seat. You also show how well you can ride transitions and that you can canter in the correct lead.

In the first station exam “Horse Behaviour”, you show that you know well about the nature of the horse, it’s natural behaviour and body language as well as its basis needs. And you show that you know how to act around horses.

During the 2nd station exam “Groundwork” you show that you can walk your horse from both sides as well as control the speed of your horse in walk. You can turn it around properly and you can pass horses that are tied-up safely.

During the 3rd station exam “Grooming” you show that you can brush a horse with a curry comb and a soft brush, that you can clean the hooves and you can clean the mane and tail.
You can tack-up with help and you know about the saddle and bridle!
Most importantly you show that you have understood the safety requirements when grooming and tacking-up.

What you need to DO! 🐴

PM 10 is the first medal that small and big beginners can achieve. Even if you are not able to ride freely yet! You can ride on the lounge, in a group or on the lead line outside. Important is that you show a correct and good seat in walk and trot. And no worries, you are allowed to hold on to the saddle with one hand in sitting trot.

During the station exam Groundwork you show that you know how to approach a horse in the stable, put on a halter, walk it and then tie it up correctly.

During the station exam Grooming you show that you can brush a horse with a curry comb and a soft brush, that you can clean the hooves and know how to clean the mane and tail.
You can help to tack-up and you know about the saddle and bridle!
Most importantly you show that you have understood the safety requirements when grooming and tacking-up.

STEP BY STEP - that is the idea of the 🇩🇪 Performance Medal System!🧐

The certificates are intended as a motivation to continue training in sporting and everyday dealings with the horse as a partner. 💡📖🧠They are deliberately designed for beginners, returnees, advanced riders, for children, adolescents and adults and are tested according to age. All PMs are intended to improve your safety with your partner horse in everyday situations and actively contribute to animal welfare through well-founded training. 💚🐴

Anyone can take PM 🔟 to 6️⃣- whether it's a competition or leisure rider. 💚

The small-step training serves the slow and sustainable learning progress. That's why PM 🔟 to 6️⃣ can be repeated as often as you like. 💪🏼💡

Anyone who plans to complete PM 5️⃣ but does not want to do the HHCC can alternatively take PM 7️⃣ and 6️⃣.
