SHORT FILM DISTRIBUTION
Since 1994, KFA has been operating a theatrical distribution department that constantly expands its catalogue and currently represents around 400 international short films, including several academy award-winning shorts. It offers pre-feature shorts from all genres and of different lengths as well as numerous feature-length short film compilations. Screening copies are nor
mally provided as 35-mm prints, but all films can also be ordered on DVD or other formats. The films from our theatrical distribution catalogue can be previewed online at www.kurzfilmverleih.com. The digital distribution programme XK.SHORTS now also brings short films in excellent digital quality to the silver screen. Cinemas with the necessary equipment can rent films on hard drives or by downloading them in 2k quality from the XK.SHORTS website at www.xkshorts.com. SHORT FILM SALES
The sales department selects quality international films, puts them under exclusive contracts and manages the worldwide sales of screening and exhibition licenses. The list of clients includes TV stations, DVD labels, feature-film distributors, Internet and mobile services providers, non-profit organisations and closed-circuit users. The licensed stock is continuously expanded and now includes around 200 international shorts from all genres and of different lengths. The online sales database at www.shortfilmsales.com allows film buyers to conduct detailed searches and preview the shorts. SHORT FILM ARCHIVE
The agency maintains an extensive short film database which lists a large number of German and international shorts. The database allows users to search KFA’s extensive archive by subject, genre, length, keyword etc., and all films can then be previewed either on VHS or DVD. KFA also helps programmers to compile short film programmes and arranges contacts between license holders and interested parties. HAMBURG INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
The Hamburg International ShortFilmFestival has been celebrating independent short film as an art form in its own right and bringing together filmmakers from all over the world with an enthusiastic audience since its foundation in 1985. In its competitions (International Competition, NoBudget Competition, Three Minute Quickie and German Competition) and its different focus programmes, the Hamburg ISFF presents the latest shorts from Germany and all over the world. It provides an overview of issues, aesthetic strategies, narrative forms and contemporary stylistic elements on a global scale. And with the Mo&Friese Hamburg Children’s Short Film Festival, which is held at the same time, KFA is also involved in one of the very few short film festivals explicitly for children worldwide. OTHER PROJECTS
The KFA Service and Marketing Department focuses on promoting recent German shorts and develops strategies for marketing short films worldwide. It also provides information for young filmmakers regarding marketing options and promoting short films
The aim of KFA’s ShortFilmClasses project is to foster film knowledge and skills among Hamburg’s schoolchildren of all ages by helping them to make their own short films. KFA organises and coordinates workshops where children and teenagers learn to shoot and edit their own films under the expert guidance of experienced filmmakers. In its shop at www.shop.shortfilm.com, KFA offers both its own DVDs as well as more than 200 shorts and compilations to private customers. A selection of shorts from KFA’s sales catalogue is also available for download at a reasonable price.
