Sometimes old friendships are simply stronger than protocol.

Happy Birthday, Princess Anne! 🇬🇧✨

This very special moment happened in Aachen in 2023: Princess Anne spotted Andrew Hoy – and didn’t let security stop her from walking straight over to give him a warm welcome.

The two share a long history in equestrian sport. Princess Anne and Andrew spent time at the same equestrian yard when they were younger – and you could feel that connection in this very moment. It wasn’t the Princess Royal meeting one of the world’s most successful eventing riders, but simply two people who have known each other for many years.

I was lucky enough to be standing right beside them and witness this wonderfully spontaneous moment. One of those very special Aachen memories I will always treasure.

And what better day than her birthday to look back on it – and on an Aachen visit that began with Ingrid Klimke welcoming Princess Anne at the opening, wearing one of my blazers.

And warmest wishes to Andrew and Stefanie Hoy – what a wonderful Aachen memory. 🧡
