The European Commission has officially acknowledged receipt of our project, “SolyPlus Biomaterial Platform – Clinical Stage,” submitted through the InvestEU Portal.
Our project, reference number INPO-20264761, is now under review by the InvestEU Portal Team.
For SolyPlus, this marks an important milestone on the path toward clinical validation of our patented biomaterials platform for advanced wound care.

SolyPlus GmbH is a German biomaterials company built around a patented technology platform for processing clinically relevant biopolymers, especially high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid and chitosan.

Our platform enables these materials to be transformed into defined granules, microparticles, films, pads, gels, microneedles and solid biodegradable formats that are difficult to manufacture reproducibly with conventional processing methods.

Our lead medical program is a high-molecular-weight hyaluronic-acid wound-bed granule for diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). The product is designed to be applied directly into the cleaned wound bed under a standard dressing, fitting existing clinical workflows while addressing deep and irregular wound geometries. Formal efficacy claims will be built through the required preclinical and clinical validation process.

Over the past years, SolyPlus GmbH has moved well beyond the concept stage:

• Granted patents in Europe, the US, Japan, India and further jurisdictions

• Translation of the core platform into multiple product formats

• Commercialized cosmetic and consumer products demonstrating real-world manufacturability

• Successful technology evaluation supported by Germany’s Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, SPRIND • Specialized partners engaged for manufacturing, packaging, regulatory affairs, quality and clinical development

• Positive BMFTR/VDI evaluation of our DFU development project, opening the next formal funding stage • A clear partner-led path toward regulated wound-care commercialization

We are now opening conversations for a €500,000 bridge financing to complete the next de-risking milestones: sterilization, packaging, biocompatibility, analytics, reproducible pilot batches, quality-control development and regulatory/clinical readiness. A larger, staged development financing is planned once these value-inflection points have been reached.

Unsere Projektskizze HA-DFU-RegMed zur beschleunigten Heilung diabetischer Fußulzera wurde im Rahmen einer BMFTR-Bekanntmachung positiv bewertet.

Damit ist die fachliche Auswahlstufe erfolgreich abgeschlossen und der Weg für die förmliche Antragstellung eröffnet.

Die positive Bewertung ist für uns ein wichtiger externer Validierungsschritt für die medizinische Relevanz und das Potenzial unserer Technologie.

Nun folgen Antragsgespräch, Bonitätsprüfung und vollständige Antragstellung.

Together with URSATEC, SolyPlus is developing a preservative-free mouth spray based on an innovative Chitosan–Hyaluron Complex, designed to support oral hygiene and the body’s natural immune defenses.

Market launch is planned for early 2027.

SolyPlus Advances Clinical Validation Pathway for Patented Hyaluronic Acid Granulate in Diabetic Foot Ulcers

SolyPlus GmbH has submitted a project outline for the regulatory and clinical preparation of its patented high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid granulate for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and other chronic wounds.

The product is being developed as an MDR Class IIb medical device and is intended for direct application into the wound bed under standard wound care. The planned project focuses on sterilisation stability, preclinical and regulatory evidence, ISO 14155-compliant clinical trial preparation, risk management, and the creation of a clinical readiness dossier.

Diabetic foot ulcers remain one of the most burdensome complications of diabetes, often leading to infection, hospitalisation and amputation. SolyPlus aims to address this unmet need with a scalable, locally applied wound-bed technology designed to support a moist healing environment, matrix function and measurable wound-healing outcomes.

The submitted 12-month project has a total planned volume of EUR 420,000, with EUR 315,000 requested in public funding. Its goal is to establish the documentation, processes and evidence base required to prepare a clinical trial application under Article 62 et seq. MDR.

“This is not a cosmetic improvement to wound care. It is a focused step toward turning a promising biomaterial platform into a clinically and regulatorily robust medical device,” said Dr. Joachim Bender, Project Lead at SolyPlus GmbH.

The project is designed to create a clear go/no-go basis for subsequent clinical validation and future market entry in advanced wound care.

At SolyPlus GmbH, we are developing a technology platform that has the potential to fundamentally change how biopolymers can be used in real-world products.
Highly effective biopolymers such as hyaluronic acid and chitosan are extremely promising for medical and cosmetic applications. However, their industrial use is often limited by processing challenges — viscosity, handling, and scalability frequently prevent them from being integrated into practical product formats.
Our solution:
Solyplus GmbH converts biopolymer powders into processable smart materials — including granulates, films, pads, microparticles, or solid bodies. This enables entirely new product formats that can be produced at industrial scale.

Potential applications include:

• Cosmetic products with high concentrations of hyaluronic acid
• Consumer products based on chitosan
• New approaches in wound healing, for example for diabetic foot ulcers
