Good news from marine research: scientists are discovering more and more about whale sharks – from their fascinating feeding behaviour to their nurseries in marine protected areas.
And it’s working: marine protected areas are proving successful. During the latest monitoring exercise, 11 whale sharks were recorded in protected waters – a sign that conservation is having an impact.
Today, on Whale Shark Day, we can all get involved:

- Raise awareness about their conservation

The Heat Wave Is Over – But the Lessons Remain
Just days ago: 36 degrees, emergency mode, desperate need for relief. Now the weather has cooled down – but what happened in Switzerland during the extreme heat deserves our full attention.
Swiss cinemas didn't wait for politicians to act. They acted. Free screenings for people over 65 – during the day, air-conditioned, accessible to all. Result: 650 people found refuge. A simple yet brilliant example of how businesses create real impact in crisis situations.
The heat is gone. The question remains: How do we prepare for the next crisis?
Companies that act proactively instead of reactively don't just create value – they set standards. They prove that responsibility and business success go hand in hand.

Gute Chemie - Goodie bags for science.
Before the summer holidays, we sent a little surprise to selected universities: goodie bags packed full of practical laboratory supplies – from safety goggles and lab labels to other useful tools for everyday research.
Today we received some wonderful feedback from KIT Campus Nord – with heartfelt thanks and great photos!
We’re absolutely delighted and it just goes to show: small gestures can bring great joy.

Good news from Leipzig.
Researchers at the University of Leipzig have developed an enzyme that could revolutionize plastic.
The naturally occurring enzyme PHL7 has been optimized to break down PET – the plastic found in beverage bottles and packaging – much faster and more reliably.
What makes it special: The new variants work even under real-world conditions – in tap water and in large industrial facilities.
The goal is clear: A true circular economy. Old plastic becomes new plastic – without significant quality loss.
This is innovation that matters.
