The combination of technical natural fibers and biogenic fillers enable new ways to cross borders in sustainable product design and innovative alternatives in various areas of industrial series production. This present thesis deals in detail with design-based innovational approaches and the design and manufacturing processes resulting from research results. The concept is based on the study of potential natural fibers as well as biopolymers and their competitive integration as a composite material in the existing market.

This implementation is carried out on the basis of a detailed material research in the field of natural fiber-reinforced plastics and on extensive empirical studies of the acceptance of materials and willingness of consumers to buy. In addition to these results, various expert information helps in a realistic product implementation, taking into account constructive and market-relevant influencing factors. By means of these processes, a sustainable, urban short- and medium-range bike was developed, which will in future be marketed under the brand Linon Cycles. Within a comprehensive business plan, the design concept is detailed in terms of its collective financial requirements.

The Al-light ‘1600 is a foldable and very light table for urban luxury apartments. Due to the urbanization, the space for large flats in the cities of the world is shrinking very fast. Different future visions try to show, what will happen to urban flats and their interior concepts. Space saving and adaptable furniture are getting more and more part of exactly these „new“ residential situations.

The foldable concept shows how a brand like Porsche Design can solve this instance. Set up, the table measures a top surface of 1600 to 800 millimeters in a height of 760 millimeters. The perfect size for four persons. Decomposed the aluminium frame of the table is compressed to a size of 800 to 800 millimeters with a depth of 150 millimeters. In this state the Al-light can be stored everywhere, with a minimum use of space. Thanks to the ingenious mechanics of movable joints with spring loaded bolt locking systems, a simple and comfortable usage is accomplished.

The Flux companion is a foldable and portable table for the special claims of todays business travelers. Nearly all business trips force the employees to work in public spaces like airports or train stations. But most of the time, there are only a few free places, mostly without any table to work in a pleasant and ergonomic way. As you always carry a suitcase with you, this is part of the concept for a mobile table system.

In folded state, the special polypropylene plate has the size of a normal carry-on baggage. To set it up, you just fold the plate in a very easy way and mount it on the handle bar of your suitcase. The four easy set up stages are self explanatory and help the user to save time and offer them a easy way to work in an ergonomic way in public spaces. Stored within a mounted bag at the baggage it’s always ready for action.

TRIANGULAR is a stool that gains stability by bracing its legs with a rotation based eccentric.

The uniquely shaped eccentric system provides a quick and easy assembly. Decomposed, the TRIANGULAR can be delivered or stored without any packaging, what makes its logistics very sustainable. The stool is sent with an seat cover out of leather, in which the mounting manual is engraved. The graphical elements make it very easy to assemble and disassemble the product. A simple and user friendly usage was one of the main topics for designing a stool like this. The concept shows how different technical functions can cooperate in a product to achieve a new and useful design in furniture design.

The given task for the bachelor thesis was „nature as a model“. In cooperation with the industrial manufactory Hasenkopf Holz + Kunststoff GmbH & Co. KG a concept for a futuristic bathroom interior out of corian was developed. The connection to the topic is established through four elements: form, material, light and water. A twisted leave was the inspiration for the form and a structural visualization in combination with light. The movement of water was always part of the natural feeling in every sanitary product of the thesis and creates a new senseful atmosphere.

Wash basin, bath tub and the shower are beside the room concept the main parts of the design concept. My design work contains as well construction parts as modeling and a feasible implementation. An innovative way of use, smooth ambient lights, waiver of water taps and a complete new and unfamiliar appearance display consciously, what will be possible with our own house oasis in a nearer future.
