Happy new year (2022)
Hi all, another Covid19 year has passed, and still it looks like we are just at the beginning.
We have experienced some logistics problems suppyling the vaccines, and we have seen that a vaccination protects us only for a few months. Certainly, the past 2 years were massively influenced by Covid19. Not only concerning our health, but also as to supply chains. Closing down ports in China showed us how vulnerable we have become in case that supply from China stops. Currently, the automotive industry suffers from a lack of chips (nearly all of them from Asia), and almost every active ingredient for remedies is produced in Asia.
Maybe it is time to think over these facts, and, although possibly more expensive, build up own sources in Europe. Let's just think a moment about a possible scenario making China stop all supplies for political reasons (e.g. when they invade into Taiwan and western states act against it).
Globalisation was meant to make products cheaper, particularly for produceres and trade, not necessarily for the end customers. Now we see the results. I think we will need to return to a more regional supply. Not only does it avoid long distance transport and thus reduce CO2 emission, it also makes our economy more robust against any upcoming crisis.
This is my conclusion as to current problems.
By the way, I was vaccinated 3 times, and in spite of all warnings of critics about millions of dead from vaccination, I am still alive and don't feel sick at all. So I'd like to close by wishing you a good start into the new year, and good health.
