Before a biological plant protection product can be used in professional crop protection, its development often takes several years. During this time, suitable formulations are developed, efficacy and safety are assessed, and comprehensive regulatory approval procedures are completed.

NeemAzal®-T/S is one example of this process. Its active substance, NeemAzal®, is obtained from the kernels of the fruits of the tropical neem tree (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.). A specially developed extraction process produces a standardised botanical extract, helping to compensate for the natural variability of the raw material and ensuring consistently high quality of the active substance.

This is how a natural active substance becomes a biological plant protection product for professional use.

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 – 𝐇𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐡𝐧 🥾

For this year’s company trip, we laced up our hiking boots once again and set off together on a walk along the River Lahn.
Starting from our company headquarters, the route took us past the Dutenhofen Lakes and on to the Au Lac restaurant in Giessen. Equipped with a handcart, refreshments and in good spirits, we set off for an enjoyable day together.

The hike provided a great opportunity to connect outside of the usual work environment and spend time together as a team. Despite the changeable weather, with rain and strong winds at times, our good mood never faded, and we thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

Upon reaching our destination, we were rewarded with a delicious meal at Restaurant Au Lac. In a relaxed atmosphere, we rounded off the day with good conversations and many enjoyable moments together.

We are pleased to announce that 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 have been granted for our biological plant protection product 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗔𝘇𝗮𝗹®-𝗧/𝗦 in 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 and 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻. The approvals according to 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝟱𝟯 are limited to a period of 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟮𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀.

𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲
In stone fruit and soft fruit, its use is authorised on 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 and 𝗮𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘀 against 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗳𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝗖𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗲), 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗴𝘀 (𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗲) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗲), as well as on 𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 and 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, both, in 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱.
The product is also approved for use on 𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮 𝗹𝘆𝗯𝗶𝗰𝗮 (African cotton leafhopper / green vine leafhopper type), restricted to 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮 and the departments of 𝗩𝗮𝗿 and 𝗣𝘆𝗿𝗲́𝗻𝗲́𝗲𝘀-𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀.

𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻
In Sweden, NeemAzal®-T/S may be used in the 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 on 𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗺𝘆𝗮 𝗵𝘆𝗼𝘀𝗰𝘆𝗮𝗺𝗶 (leaf miner) and Plutella xylostella (cabbage moth) for 120 days.

The existing authorisation for 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐀𝐳𝐚𝐥®-𝐓/𝐒 in Belgium has been extended under 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝟓𝟏, with the updated authorisation effective from 𝟏 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔. The authorisation remains valid until 𝟑𝟏 𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟖.

The new authorisation expands the range of approved uses for NeemAzal®-T/S. New crop uses include leafy vegetables such as 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐞, 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 (𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐟 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐬, as well as additional crops including 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬, 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐢.
Furthermore, the maximum number of applications has been increased for fruiting vegetables such as 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐨, 𝐚𝐮𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 (𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫.

In Belgium, NeemAzal®-T/S continues to be available 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐬. The extension provides additional options for integrated pest management (IPM) and broadens the practical use of NeemAzal®-T/S across a wider range of crops.

The approval for NeemAzal®‑T/S has been extended under Article 51 for professional use in leaf vegetable cultivation. Within the same crop group, a distinction is made between three different areas of application:
• the open-field cultivation of leafy vegetables,
• the greenhouse propagation of young plants and
• the use of crops as baby leaf.
This ensures that different production methods in professional leafy vegetable cultivation are clearly and separately taken into account.

During this year’s Biocontrol Week in Brussels, IBMA members exchanged views on current developments in EU plant protection regulation.
The focus was on the EU Pesticides Omnibus, questions regarding the definition of biological plant protection, and planned procedural adjustments.
The programme was complemented by working group sessions (‘Working Parties’) on the topics of ‘Proteins and Peptides’, ‘Microbial-based fermented mixtures’, and the newly established group ‘Formulation & Application’.

𝗣𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 took place in Dossenheim from 8 to 12 March. The international workshop organised by the IOBC/WPRS Working Group was hosted by the 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗞𝘂̈𝗵𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 (𝗝𝗞𝗜) and brought together experts from academia and industry.

The focus was on current developments regarding pheromones and other semiochemical signals in integrated pest management – including mating disruption, the use of beneficial insects, new dispenser technologies and AI-supported monitoring solutions.

Trifolio-M GmbH also took part and contributed to the professional exchange on current issues and practical applications.
