Most university patents never leave the lab.
 Last week, ten teams had five days to change that.

Researchers from across Europe took a real patent and worked out whether anyone would actually pay for it. One of the inventors was in a team himself, building on his own patent.

On day 2 the teams ran expert interviews and gathered first feedback right away. Some ideas survived the process, some didn’t.
 Then on Friday, all ten teams pitched at the Demo Day in front of a jury.

Startups meet corporate challenge - first steps to collaboration

Last week, European startups taking part in the Volkswagen Industry Challenge presented their progress at Volkswagen’s engine plant in Chemnitz.

At this site, hundreds of thousands of cylinder heads are manually inspected each year. The challenge is to automate the inspection process and relieve skilled employees for other tasks.

After direct feedback from Volkswagen and from the factory floor, the teams are now preparing for the demo day next month where they will present their final solutions.

Through the Industry Challenge format, boOst connects industry partners with concrete problems to startups equipped to solve it. In return, the startups gain market insights, a potential customer, and boOst’s support throughout the process.
