Thu October 15th 2026
Zeid Hamdan
Doors: 19:00
Start: 20:00
VVK 22, AK 25

Zeid Hamdan is a key figure of SWANA’s alternative music scene. As producer, composer, and musician, he rose to prominence in the early 2000s with Soapkills, the pioneering duo he formed with Yasmine Hamdan, blending electronic sounds with Arabic melodies in a bold fusion that paved the way for an entire generation. Nicknamed the ‘Godfather of Middle Eastern underground’, Zeid has since pursued a deeply personal and prolific path, spanning cross-border collaborations and politically engaged projects, as Bédouin Burger. He has also composed for cinema, with several major films to his credit: Capharnaüm by Nadine Labaki, nominated for an Academy Award; Costa Brava, Lebanon; Lebanon; and Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous by Wissam Charaf.

In 2025, he served as music director for a creation at the Printemps de Bourges paying tribute to Oum Kalthoum, inviting several artists to embody this ambitious repertoire: Camélia Jordana, Abdullah Miniawy, Danyl, Maryam Saleh, Natacha Atlas, Rouhnaa, and Souad Massi. This grand-scale performance has already been staged in the Cour d’Honneur of the Palais des Papes in Avignon and in the Port of Marseille before an audience of nearly 15,000 people.

The Paris premiere of Zeid Hamdan’s new band show last October 23 at La Flèche d’Or — a committed, activist venue resonated with Zeid’s own call for audiences to „wake up“ and mobilize through the lyrics of his songs (S7ah!). This new show also brings together some of the most emblematic tracks from his repertoire with new, intimate and unexpected compositions, offering audiences the full range of his musical subtlety. An electrifying live show at the crossroads of psychedelic rock, electronic textures, and Eastern reminiscences – an invitation to (re)discover the contemporary history of alternative music in the SWANA region, and glimpse its future.

chucuXchucu brings together two projects connected by Colombian roots and forward-facing vision. The Colombian-German duo Cósmica Bandida combines tropical psychedelia, sci-fi disco, distorted guitars, analog synthesizers and ritualistic percussion into immersive live performances that feel both primal and futuristic. Conjunto Media Luna moves through the space between traditional accordion cumbia and contemporary electronic experimentation. What emerges is sharp accordion melodies, drum machines, psychedelic textures and heavy low-end pressure meeting in hypnotic tension.

Since March 2, 2026, in the context of the recent American-Israeli War on Iran, Lebanon has found itself once again in the crosshairs of a war between Hezbollah and Iran, which has been ongoing with various levels of intensity. Despite the cease-fire, that was concluded on April 16, Israeli strikes have continued and Israel has formally occupied an area that’s stretches 5 to 10 kilometers deep into Lebanese territory.  Conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, accompanied by Israeli bombardment of Lebanese territory, and military incursions into the country’s interior, has been a recurrent feature of Lebanon’s modern history, but this time is different. The outcome of this war and these negotiations could be decisive for the country’s future. Indeed, Lebanon is facing perhaps the most dangerous and crucial moment in the country’s history.

To help us fully understand the present moment, documentary filmmaker and writer Malek Rasamny will take us through the country’s recent history. Malek is a writer, researcher and documentary filmmaker, director of the film Spaces of Exception and the co-author of the Mohawk Warrior Society. Jana Roth studied political science and holds a master’s degree in Terrorism, Security, and Society from King’s College London.

La Perla is a percussion and vocal trio from Bogotá, inspired by the traditional sounds of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Their music blends rhythms such as cumbia, bullerengue, porro, and gaita with influences from merengue, champeta, hip-hop, punk, and beatboxing.
Working primarily with voice and percussion, the trio creates dense, polyrhythmic compositions where rhythm and vocals take center stage. Their sound moves fluidly between traditional and contemporary expressions, combining different Latin American styles into a dynamic and cohesive musical language.

As a displaced person of color who experiences othering on a daily basis, 3YOONI critically addresses identity, language, racism and orientalism in his songs. He fuses traditional Arabic rhythms and the echoes of oud arrangements with pulsating electronic beats and warped synthesizers. The music is accompanied by his distinctive voice and lyrics in Iraqi Arabic.

die_ley (Leyla Schiemenz) is a German-Iranian DJ and artist from Munich. In her sets, she blends UK bass, dubstep and breakbeat with Persian and Middle Eastern influences. Heavy basslines meet hypnotic rhythms, vocals and melodic fragments from Persian musical traditions – percussive, bass-driven and genre-spanning.

AFROAndina bridges borders with black Andean-tropical rhythms, full of good energy.

Abdul Samad Habibi Ensemble
feat. Embryo
From a very early age, Abdul Samad Habibi was interested in the music of Afghanistan and wanted to learn to play the rubab. He studied it under the master Ustad Mahamad Omar Sultane and is very well-versed in old traditional Afghan pieces. Parviz Ayan has been studying tabla for many years under great North Indian tabla masters such as Guruji Pt. Biplab Mondal and Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, mastering both Afghan and Indian techniques. Since 1979, the group Embryo has maintained musical ties with Afghan musicians. The pieces from back then are still played today by the new Embryo generation, and are being relearned and reinterpreted this evening. The ensemble includes Marja Burchard, Maasl Maier, Jakob Thun, Wolfi Schlick, and David Westphäling.

Saba Alizadeh & Pietro Caramelli
With *Rituals of the Last Dawn*, Iranian composer and musician Saba Alizadeh and Italian experimental artist Pietro Caramelli present their latest collaborative work: a haunting sound ritual that weaves together elements of electroacoustic composition, ambient music, and experimental improvisation. Saba, son of the world-renowned tar virtuoso Hossein Alizadeh, explores the concept of silence in musical, historical, and sociopolitical contexts. Alizadeh combines his sonically open, atmospherically rich structures on the kamancheh with Caramelli’s work on prepared guitar, modular synthesizers, and live processing. Together they create a fragile yet powerful musical dialogue that dissolves the boundaries between composition and improvisation, between human and machine, between memory and the present. Sound becomes space; listening becomes a shared moment of perception and reflection.

TROTZDEM is a new concert series dedicated to jazz, improvisation, and experimental music. The focus is on formats that unfold a quiet, atmospheric intensity and create an intimate space. For each evening, artists are invited to perform in the space in different ways—not just facing the audience, but from various perspectives and in shifting configurations. This creates new listening experiences that blend proximity, movement, and sonic openness.

For this special night celebrating the release of ‘notes 001’, Bex Burch is joined by Johannes Schleiermacher to form a joyful new duo, rooted in friendship and love of sound. The set travels between lilting poly-rhythmic interplay, twinkling percussion, modular synth and KORG’s phase8 weaving in and out of one another with the controlled and chaotic fluidity of running water. Rooted in rhythmic repetitions and exploring the relationship between acoustic instruments and machine to reveal the timbral and dynamic range of the sequencer.

Damian Dalla Torre is an Italian-born saxophonist, composer and producer based in Leipzig. His work explores the intersection of contemporary jazz, ambient music and experimental pop, combining acoustic instrumentation with subtle electronic processing and textural composition. Laura Zöschg works in the field of improvised and experimental music, whose means of expression are the various colors and sounds of her voice, sometimes with instruments.

Exploration and play are at the core of Simon Popp’s creative process. Trained in jazz drumming and polyrhythm, the Bavarian-born artist draws from a vast array of percussive instruments to build his expansive sound palette.
