Das Import Export ist ein diskursiver Raum für Kunst, Musik und Soziokultur in dem reflektiert, kontextualisiert, gefeiert und gelebt wird.

2010 hat der Kunstzentrat e.V. das Import Export in München eröffnet und ist innerhalb von kürzester Zeit zu einem der Lieblingveranstaltungsorte Münchens gewachsen und auch außerhalb des Weißwurstäquators bekannt geworden. realisiert seit mehr als 17 Jahren künstlerische, kulturelle und soziale Projekte, die sich durch lokale, regionale, aber auch inter- und transnationale Verknüpfungen auszeichnen. Das Import Export ist soziokultureller Treffpunkt, Raum für Experimente, öffentlicher Veranstaltungsort, Café und Kantinenbetrieb. Das Programm des Import Export entfaltet sich in zahlreichen Konzerten, Workshops, Kunst und Kulturfestivals, Diskussionsrunden, Filmabenden, Lesungen und Performances. bemüht sich, dass alle Generationen an den Angeboten des Import Export teilnehmen können. For more than five decades, Embryo has been moving between worlds. Founded in Munich in 1969, the internationally connected collective is not a conventional band but a living organism: Krautrock dissolves into jazz, free improvisation merges with inner- and outer-European rhythms, and sound rituals from distant cultures meet urban avant-garde. Generations, genres, and borders blur, driven by an openness that has always made Embryo singular.

After legendary collaborations with figures such as Mal Waldron, Okay Temiz, Fela Kuti, and Charlie Mariano, the spirit of the group continues today in a renewed form. Since 2015, Marja Burchard, daughter of founder Christian Burchard, has carried Embryo forward, guided by curiosity, wanderlust, and an unrelenting desire to embrace new musical ways of thinking.

Deobrat Mishra is widely regarded as one of India’s most energetic and innovative sitar players, a representative of the eleventh generation of the Benares gharana tradition, whose playing glows with melodic finesse and rhythmic intricacy. Prashant Mishra, meanwhile, stands among the most outstanding young tabla masters of the same lineage: precise, fiery, yet deeply sensitive and supportive. Together they stretch a sonic arc from centuries-old tradition into the vibrating present.

This album together is not merely a meeting of musicians—it is a ritual of wood, metal, skin, and breath. A quiet spell that grows into ecstatic dance. A global dialogue that begins in Munich and radiates outward in countless directions.

Kader Tarhanine, the rising star of modern Tuareg music, captivates an ever-growing audience with his innate talent and artistic freshness. In 2012, he was propelled onto the international scene with his iconic song “Tarhanine Tegla: My love gone“ becoming a major figure for Tuareg youth around the world. His music skillfully fuses traditional Tuareg rhythms with rock influences, creating a unique and captivating sound. The poetic lyrics of his songs, often in Tamacheq or Arabic, add a profound dimension to his music, touching the hearts of those who listen to him. In addition to his musical talent, Kader Tarhanine is also known for his impressive stage performances and his exceptional mastery of the guitar, which has earned him a reputation as a must-see artist on the modern Tuareg scene. Over the years, he has collaborated with many icons of African music, such as Oumou Sangaré, Fatoumata Diawara, Sidiki Diabaté from Mali, Mouna Dendeny from Mauritania and even Carlou D from Senegal. These collaborations have not only enriched his music, but have also made him a peacemaker through music, using his art to promote harmony and understanding between peoples. As a symbolic ambassador, Kader Tarhanine’s music transcends borders, advocating harmony between the Sahelo-Saharan regions and the Maghreb, often torn apart by multiple crises. His commitment to peace and unity, combined with his undeniable musical talent, makes him an emblematic figure of contemporary African music.

weed420 is an experimental sound-collage collective from Venezuela, exploring memory, politics, and the experience of uprooting. Blending noise, lo-fi, and maximalist vaporwave, they fuse somber cloud-rap and ambient textures with 2000s perreo and salsa. plainhead tries to flow between the boundaries of experimental music and pop melodies, an acoustic-centered outfit featuring the winds of the clarinet, melodica and horns while distorted sharp guitars hover over the atmosphere.

Cleo Reed’s rootsy, groovy new album ‘Cuntry’ is a proud and emphatically Black update on the American folk tradition of anticapitalist protest. Matthew Jamal is a composer whose work remains rooted in Black American traditions, joining Cleo with vocals and cello. Malva moves between chanson and indie pop, working on her third album to be released by the Munich based label Trikont. Daniel Door on the decks.

The Free Mind Crew will set up their Soundsystem and present national and international guests from the dub and soundsystem scene. We’ve invited the Roots Iration Crew from Rosenheim as our local support alongside none other than Radikal Guru from Poland. Guru was highly anticipated at this year’s Komod Festival, but unfortunately couldn’t attend due to a broken arm.

Drones are a powerful force, capable of whisking our thinking mind far, far, away. Austin-based collective Water Damage yields the same power whenever they pick up their instruments. Veterans from other projects (a.o. Spray Paint, Black Eyes, Swans, more eaze, USA/Mexico and more), the band is not unfamiliar with the unshakeable power of music; still, as Water Damage, they stretch out drone’s possibilities to their limits, bowing to the principle ‘Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation’. Once an idea takes off, they pursue it forever; as Pitchfork said, their 2024 double LP ‘In E’ doubles as a “glorious mind eraser”.

Almost five years after their celebrated debut album ‚Alewa‘ introduced this 8-piece Highlife collective powerhouse from Ghana’s capital Accra to the world, Santrofi are returning to Import Export with a new album ‚Making Moves‘. Recorded and mixed by four-time Grammy Award winner Jerry Boys (REM, Ali Farka Toure, Buena Vista Social Club, Orchestra Baobab, Kronos Quartet), it is both a celebration of Santrofi’s roots and a leap into the future of Highlife. The album dives deep into raw Highlife grooves but also introduces a new vibe of funk driven dancefloor bangers and soulful songs reflecting on life.

The Grexits welcome the onset of darkness with their new album—due out this autumn—featuring a blend of post-punk, rebetiko, surf, and psychedelia. *Καληνύχτα*—good night. Sweet dreams... but watch out!

g.rag/zelig implosion deluxxe – gerade Tage
Like a band that lives in a suitcase and only emerges when the moon is out of alignment. A triangular disco ball radiates rhythms and voices that make the room vibrate like a diesel engine; smoke rises like cigarette smoke at midnight. No Wave… and how.

There is more than just a strong bond connecting these two bands; each group has previously performed at the other’s album launch party. They’ve even recorded a few songs together and blasted them out on tape. But now, the time has come for their first joint double-album launch. The Grexits’ new album is titled *Kalinichta*, while Implosion’s is called *Gerade Tage* (Even Days). The motto: "Good night, even days." Ouch—the 10th happens to be an even day, too. Hallelujah. What could that possibly mean? The venue: Import Export—the finest harbor on our coast for both bands to drop anchor with their rusty, battered ships. And one thing is absolutely certain: both bands will wrap up the evening together by performing a handful of magnificent "Rembetika-Wave-Schlager" tunes. One suspects more than one ship will be pulling in. Or is everyone alone together? Emilie Gendron (Munichagain) will be spinning the perfect soundtrack for the occasion.
