October brings together Baroque music, contemporary premieres, operetta and two new album releases.
At the beginning of October, the Freiburger Barockorchester toured Europe with Bach’s six «Brandenburg Concertos», including performances in Paris, Bydgoszcz, Berlin and Freiburg. The programme also marked the 30th anniversary of the orchestra’s Freiburg concert series, which opened with these works in 1996. The orchestra also celebrated an OPUS KLASSIK award this month.
On 10 October, tenor and composer Daniel Behle celebrated the world premiere of his new operetta «Schmetterling» at the Eduard-von-Winterstein-Theater in Annaberg-Buchholz. Written in collaboration with Swiss author Alain Claude Sulzer, the work takes a humorous look at the world of opera, its singers and the Bayreuth Festival.
At the Donaueschinger Musiktage on 17 October, Ensemble Modern presents the world premiere of Brigitta Muntendorf’s «The Last Show», conducted by Xizi Wang. Created as part of the CONNECT project, the work explores the relationship between performers and audiences, inviting listeners to become active participants through live voting and interaction.
Two new releases follow later in the month. On 23 October, Palazzetto Bru Zane releases a new CD-book dedicated to Léo Delibes’ opera «Jean de Nivelle», continuing its rediscovery of French Romantic repertoire.
On 30 October, conductor Pierre Dumoussaud and the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine release «PHANTOMS – French Symphonic Poems» on Alpha Classics, in collaboration with Palazzetto Bru Zane. The album explores the fantastic and supernatural in French orchestral music, including world premiere recordings of works by Augusta Holmès and Marie Jaëll.
