May the 4th isn’t an “official” Star Wars holiday — it’s a pun that escaped into the wild.
“May the Force be with you” became “May the Fourth be with you”… and the earliest famous public use traces back to May 4, 1979, when a UK newspaper ad congratulated Margaret Thatcher with the line “May the Fourth Be With You.”

Since then, fans made it a global ritual: memes, marathons, costumes, and the most serious debates on Earth (Han shot first, obviously).

International Women’s Day makes me think of my mother, Chris Nowotny (1928–1989).

She stood for women’s independence long before it was common.
She taught me: freedom and decency require action.

She trained as a photographer, lived and worked in Switzerland and Austria, earned her master qualification in Vienna, and studied journalism. She chose independence — and raised her child on her own.

Despite her own struggles, she supported others: disadvantaged colleagues, actors, and other single mothers.

“Munich – 50 Years in Pictures” reflects the atmosphere of that time.

Her integrity and generosity remain my example.

One of the greats of the silver screen, a hero of my childhood, has left us forever. I had the privilege of meeting him in person at a film premiere at the SXSW Festival in Austin. When he saw my Bavarian lederhosen, he asked me where I was from. When I replied, „Munich,“ he gave me a quick hug and said, „I love Munich.“
He often played wild characters, but in person he was warm and engaging. RIP
