Today’s broadcast investigates the deterritorialization of contemporary music, focusing on artists who navigate post-digital context collapse self-reflexively. In this episode we focus on two primary trajectories: the extraction of physical club spaces into algorithmic aesthetics, and the synthesis of URL-native identities from globalized consumer culture. To map this landscape, our mix blends these contemporary mutations with various localized subcultural antecedents they draw from. Through this archival approach, we explore how today’s artists engage in knowing pastiche, weaponizing subcultural appropriation to negotiate new forms of sincerity within a hyper-mediated economy.

Team Hula Radio interrogates how internet-core and post-internet music push the boundaries of sound and culture in a hyper-digital age. By linking the subcultural roots of traditional genres with genre-agnostic contemporary music, we explore how digital culture redefines music’s emotional and cultural significance. Through a research-driven lens, we recontextualize post-internet music, investigating its reflection of an immediacy-obsessed, hyper-connected world. Team Hula Radio invites listeners to examine how music, identity, and digital mediation converge, showing how the internet reshapes our experience of sound.

This episode of Team Hula Radio follows early and pre-internet gaming soundtracks into the internet-native music they influenced. Built from strict technical limitations, these soundtracks developed a distinct language of looping melodies, synthetic timbres, and compressed emotion that now circulates freely through digital culture. By tracing this shift from functional gameplay audio to a shared reservoir of nostalgia, sampling, and aesthetic reference, we explore how gaming soundtracks prefigured the logic of the post-internet soundscape.
