This is another project, which we also finished with full pride. It‘s a treasure house vom Palau, collected and acquired 1902 from Arno Senfft.

In addition to their homes, high-ranking families also owned a cooking house and a treasure house or a spirit house of varying sizes. Treasure houses, unlike the smaller spirit houses, were not dedicated to a particular god. In them offerings for the ancestors were made, women waited to give birth, and men prepared to assume the office of chief (rubak). Objects of value were also stored in them. Today treasure and spirit houses are rare in Palau.

The exhibition is expected to open in fall 2022.💛

Die letzten Vorbereitungen für den Transport der 23 Objekte aus der kolonialen Namibia Sammlung im Ethnologischen Museum werden getroffen. Beginnend mit der Reise der Objekte in das National Museum of Namibia wird ein erster Schritt der Zugänglichkeit unternommen.

Heute ging’s hoch hinaus zum Dachdecken des Vorratshauses (Taro Speicher) aus Papua Neuguinea. Zu Besichtigen ist der gesamte Kubus Häuser voraussichtlich erst im Herbst 2022! 🔥

So sehen Arbeitshandschuhe nach über 600 Bindungen mit Kokosschnur aus. Das ist im Übrigen das fünfte paar Handschuhe inklusive Blasen. ✋🏻🤚🏻🖐🏾🤚🏾

TODAY IS FINALLY THE DAY - Humboldt Forum opens it’s doors! 🤍
Der Kubus Ozeanien mit seinen Bauwerken wird zwar leider erst 2022 öffnen, dafür lassen sich ab heute jedoch sechs Ausstellungen und Präsentationen - vom Schlosskeller bis zum 1. Obergeschoss besichtigen. In den ersten 100 Tagen sind alle Ausstellungen kostenfrei.
Ab 20. Juli 2021, 14 Uhr

The Oceania Cube with its buildings will unfortunately not open until 2022, but six exhibitions and presentations - from the Palace Cellar to the first floor - can be visited starting today. All exhibitions are free of charge for the first 100 days.

Mit Blick durch den Dachstuhl. Die Rundlatten werden nun aufwendig mit Kokosschnüren verbunden und bilden die Auflage für die kommende Palmenblattdeckung.

Es folgt der Dachaufbau mit den Sparren, First und Giebelwänden.
Das Versammlungshaus stammt aus Palau/Mikronesien und wurde 1908 vom Ethnologen Augustin Krämer erworben. Es besteht aus 461 Einzelzeilen die bereits 2017 von uns im Ethnologischen Museum in Dahlem demontiert, restauriert und anschließend für den Umzug vorbereitet wurden.

The following is the roof structure with the rafters, ridge and gable walls. The meeting house originates from Palau/Micronesia and was acquired by the ethnologist Augustin Krämer in 1908. It consists of 461 individual lines that were already dismantled by us in 2017 in the ethnological museum in Dahlem, restored and then packed for the move.
