Working cross cultural in international teams was a main topic in all my jobs I had so far. After so many years you develop an understanding how the different cultures function and what you need to consider and respect when you work with each other.
However, this is a competence you develop over the years.

In one of my latest managing director positions, I took over an R&D organization where Germans and Indians have been ordered to work together but no one had prepared them for this task. This leads to frustration on both sides and thus to inefficiencies.
What helped me in the past in such situations was the book “When Cultures Collide” written by Richard D. Lewis. This book describes more than 50 different cultures around the globe and what you need to consider when working together. The way I used this book is that I had the team reading the necessary chapters before working together. This helps, e.g., a German newcomer to understand the Indian culture before he starts working with them and vice versa. Of course, this does not replace real experience, but it is an excellent start to work in an international team.
