It was with great pleasure that Sustainable Growth Associates (SGA) participated in the launching event of the promising Circular and Sustainability Hub of launching partners Planetiers and renowned Universidade Catolica Portugal - Porto. After inspiring words from rector Isabel Capeloa Gil and pro-rector Isabel Braga da Cruz, Rüdiger Röhrig and Edwin Janssen kicked-off with 2 short presentations on ‘Strategic Sustainability Leadership in Europe’ with great commentary from inspiring business leaders Micaela Pires Cabral and Ana Salomé Martins.
We then experienced contributions from hub initiators Manuela Pintado and João Pinto and other external whole-system sustainability thinkers & doers incl. Gunter Pauli, John Fullerton, Tom Bregman , John Melo with special thanks to Gunter for his inspiring cases and kind words and Antonio Vasconcelos for bringing all of this together!

We enjoyed the heartfelt hospitality and energy of our kind hosts, the presence of relevant business leaders and the vibrant energy and initiatives around this promising colllaborative to accelerate business transformation in the larger Porto region. Great (female!) leadership at the university and especially the faculty of bio-technology and business school. Looking forward to our future engagements!

Soeben ist die erste digitale Jahrestagung des Rates für Nachhaltige Entwicklung, RNE, zu Ende gegangen. Mehr als 3.400 Gäste waren online dabei. Über ein Online-Tool haben die Teilnehmer*innen Stichworte gepostet und Fragen gestellt - ein Hauch von Interaktivität. Die Konferenz wurde aufgezeichnet und steht demnächst auf der RNE-Website, https://www.nachhaltigkeitsrat.de/, zur Verfügung. Mein erstes Fazit: Es gab informative Talks zu sozialen und technologischen Innovationen in die Nachhaltigkeit. Der Rat fordert konseqeunte Investitionen in , nachhaltige Lieferketten, Wasserstoffwirtschaft, Bildung und . Natürlich kann die Digital-Konferenz das Treffen mit den Teilnehmer*innen LIVE in Berlin nicht ersetzen. Inspirierend war es aber trotzdem. Der Earth Overshoot Day wird in diesem Jahr auf den 22. August falle. Auch das ist noch viel zu früh: Mehr als vier Monate vor Jahresende 2020 werden wir die zur Verfügung stehenden Ressourcen unseres Planeten aufgebraucht haben, Link: https://bit.ly/3flPjCX. Führende Wissenschaftsjournalisten, darunter Dirk Steffens und Harald Lesch haben in vielen sehenswerten Beiträgen gezeigt: Klima- und Umweltschutz ist auch Seuchenschutz. Wir haben also noch eine Menge zu tun. Kreislaufwirtschaft und nachhaltige Beschaffung können hierzu im Mix mit kluger Digitalisierung unfassbar viel beitragen. Packen wir es also gemeinsam an! Heute startet der Petersberger Klimadialog, Corona-bedingt als Video-Konferenz. Ich wünsche mir sehr, dass sich die Beteiligten und unterstützende Unternehmen gegenseitig inspirieren werden. Wunschergebnis: Förder- und Konjunkturprogramme folgen den wissenschaftlichen Insights der Scientists for Future und den Statements führender Wissenschaftsjournalisten. Diese sind sich einig: Umwelt- und Klimaschutz ist Seuchenschutz. Das Hochfahren der Wirtschaft muss plan- und maßvoll erfolgen. Wir dürfen die planetaren Grenzen keinesfalls weiterhin wie bisher überschreiten. Hätten wir die Biosphäre und die natürlichen Ökosysteme nicht für ein „höher schneller weiter“ gnadenlos verletzt, dann hätten wir heute keinen Lockdown, keine Maskenpflicht und keine Abstandsregeln mit Folgen für Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft, die niemand wirklich abschätzen kann.

Auch in der Coronavirus-Krise sollen Konjunkturprogramme klimafreundlich gestaltet werden. Das haben Unternehmen zum Auftakt des Petersberger Klimadialogs gefordert.
