Greywater-Recycling in Mosques

Greywater-Recycling in Mosques THE PROJECT WEBSITE
http://www.greywater-recycling.info Relevant greywater sources in Jordan are mosques, hotels, tourism industry, households, etc.

The ever-increasing water demand is forcing Jordan to undertake political and structural reforms in order to preserve existing water resources and to develop alternative water sources. The goal is to meet the needs of the population and economic justice and simultaneously to preserve the ecological integrity, increases the importance of new techniques for the effective reuse of water originating f

rom non-conventional sources. The return of the very low contaminated wash water for irrigation purposes is technically and economically feasible. The legal, organizational and technical conditions must be created for this purpose. The technical and economic know-how must be taught to provide the required acceptance for the plants to authorities and decision makers. In countries dominated by Islam environmental protection is the responsibility of the state and society but also the national and religious duty of every citizen. Religious scholars and Islamic councils can therefore contribute effectively to enforce regulations to protect the environment and use of natural resources. In every mosque pool are with running water for ritual prayer ablutions (Wudû´). This waste water has a high degree of purity, since soap is used. With more than 400 mosques in Amman the potential for the use of purified water for ritual ablutions is enormous, reuse contributes to the conservation of water resources. Because greywater produced daily in almost the same amount regardless of the weather and right in every mosque, there is an ongoing resource. The circulation of this water "collection, treatment and reuse for irrigation" is the subject of the proposed project. The project is oriented toward the objectives of a modern recycling economy and attempts to close material cycles location as possible, in order to reduce resource consumption and prevent environmental pollution. The topic of using recycled water in Islamic countries is sensitive, as is always pointed in religious texts on the importance of the purity of the water. Here is working closely with Islamic dignitaries and religious scholars in the preparation of the materials and in the communication in order to make it clear that Islam allows the reuse of treated wastewater.

As part of a project and journalist trip we were able to present our "greywater-recycling at Mosques" project in Jordan. After completing the project last year, today we were able to present more detailed specifics and challenges of the project and present them the present German journalists. At the JUST University (Jordan University of Science and Technology) in Irbid, we functionally explained our greywater-recycling-system and presented future perspectives.

At the same time we would like to thank all participating project partners and especially the DEG - Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH!
