Our latest news recap is packed with a lot of information about Meta, the always hot topic of AI, and how TikTok is not gatekeeping its videos.
🤳 WhatsApp & AI Selfies
The new feature, which is still in development, is called "Imagine Me" It enables users to upload selfies and generate a picture of themself in a setting of their choosing via the text prompt "Imagine me..."
🤔 Meta & the ads dilemma in the EU
Meta's ad-free subscription plan (9,99€/month for no ads & no data tracking) is not in compliance with the DMA (Digital Markets Acts) - a law to give social media users in the EU more control over how their personal data is recorded and used by social media platforms - the EU Commission decided. According to the law, users should be able to experience the social platforms without having to submit their personal data, which you have to, to access Meta's channels. If the "pay or consent" model of Meta is not resolved, the company could be fined up to 10% of its total worldwide revenue.
📷 "Made with AI" - another challenge for Meta
On the one hand, Meta implements more AI features, on the other it has to rework those they already launched. Creators weren't very happy when Meta tagged their uploads as "Made with AI" when they only slightly re-touched their content with digital tools - especially artists and photographers have been criticized. Now Meta opts for a more vague wording, just called "AI Info".
📹 TikTok is open to repurposing videos to other platforms
We all know videos uploaded on other social channels with a TikTok watermark get restricted but if you're into TikToks own editing tools it was a drawback one would come to accept. TikTok now opens this up and lets users download their TikToks without the watermark if they posted their content to TikTok first! No more workarounds to remove logos and TikTok ensures their platform gets more content.
➡️ Sharing is Caring - Instagram underlines its new key focus
Some time ago Instagram stated their algorithmic focus on sends. How important sending content to each other is for the social platform, not only got emphasized by IG chief Adam Mosseri in a new clip with advice for content creators, but also in the tested feature to see share counts on posts.
