Six days. Five camps. One monastery cell. One mosque. And two mountain passes at 2,200 metres. Week two took Karsten deep into the heart of Anatolia. It started in Nar, at the edge of Cappadocia, where the landscape is so extraordinary it is almost impossible to describe. Fairy chimneys, volcanic rock, and a terrain unlike anywhere else on earth. A thunderstorm chased him into a campground in Gรถreme just in time.

From there, the plateau opened up. Long highway days with wide shoulders and big skies, interrupted by chance encounters that made the kilometres worthwhile. Two French motorcyclists en route to Georgia and Armenia. A fellow cyclist named John, who became a loose travel companion for several days. A field owner who arrived on his tractor and simply acted as if Karsten was not there.

The physical toll was real. A pulled back. A day where the headwind ate steadily into his energy. A day where he simply needed a roof, a hot meal, and rest. He found all of that in a medieval caravanserai in Sivas, walls a metre thick, room like a monastery cell. He declared it a paradise.

The week ended with the hardest and most beautiful day yet. Two mountain passes, 139 kilometres, and a descent of forty kilometres into Erzincan without a single pedal stroke. Raw, wild, unpolished mountains unlike anything he had seen before. And somewhere along the way, a cucumber and a tomato placed in front of him without a word, by the owner of a roadside mosque where he had slept for the night.

Karsten started with a ferry ride across the Bosphorus, from Europe to Asia, and what followed was a week that tested every part of him. Bad roads turned to mud in the rain. Thunderstorms rolled in at night. Hills came one after another with barely any sleep to recover from them. And yet, by Day 4, something had shifted. He was stronger. More settled. Starting to find his rhythm.

The landscapes kept changing around him, green rolling countryside giving way to canyons and lakes, then to snow-capped mountains on the horizon, then to near-desert plains so vast and flat they barely seemed real. On Day 8, he cycled across Tuz Gรถlรผ, Turkey's second-largest salt lake, whose crust is solid enough to ride on. That's not a metaphor. He literally rode across a lake.

But what stayed with him most weren't the kilometers, it was the people. A Turkish woman on a trike who invited him to draft behind her. A stranger who pulled over just to check if he was okay. An imam who also teaches martial arts. A former truck driver who greeted him in German out of nowhere. Small moments, big reminders that kindness is everywhere if you're paying attention.

He arrived in Cappadocia on Day 9, checked into a cave hotel carved into the rock, and finally rested.

Karsten is cycling from Istanbul to Aqtau to raise awareness and funds for coaching support for NGO leaders โ€” people doing extraordinary work, often without anyone looking after them.

Over the past days in Kamuli, Uganda, we witnessed something remarkable.
We saw entrepreneurs creating opportunities where others see limitations. We met village leaders, farmers and young people who are determined to shape their own future. And we experienced what can happen when change is built together with a community instead of being imposed from the outside.

The launch of Nyota Lifeline was an important milestone. But what impressed us even more was the spirit behind it: local leadership, ownership, and a shared vision for a better future.
