In 2021, a study published in Scientific Reports investigated expression of the longevity-associated protein ฮฑ-Klotho in the naked mole rat, a species known for its exceptional lifespan.

Because no specific antibodies exist for detecting Klotho in this model, the researchers applied targeted proteomics using Parallel Reaction Monitoring (PRM) to measure Klotho protein expression in kidney and liver tissue.

At Biogenity, we performed the PRM-based proteomics analysis, using high-resolution mass spectrometry to detect Klotho-derived peptides in complex tissue samples.

We enjoy looking back at studies like this, where targeted mass spectrometry enables protein-level measurements when conventional approaches are not available.

What started as an observation at a research conference in Dublin has grown into a company working with clients worldwide.

Our co-founder and CEO, Kenneth Kastaniegaard, first saw the opportunity while completing his PhD: a huge amount of existing research data was going underused, while researchers kept running costly new experiments to get answers that were often already there. That insight became the foundation for Biogenity.

Aalborg University recently featured our story - from the early idea to how we work today, helping researchers, hospitals, and biotech and pharma companies turn biological data into insights that move their research forward.

In a 2025 study published in Cell Reports, researchers used a comprehensive multiomics strategy to investigate how obesity reshapes the lung microenvironment.

By combining advanced proteomics, ECM-focused analyses, scRNA-seq, and functional assays, the study shows that obesity drives profound matrisome remodeling, altered elastic fiber organization, and fibroblast activation - changes that partially overlap with hallmarks of lung aging.

At Biogenity, we contributed by performing mass-spectrometry-based proteomics and data analysis, including ECM and BALF proteomics workflows. These datasets helped uncover solubility shifts, matrisome remodeling, and proteaseโ€“inhibitor imbalance in the obese lung.
