Good morning

The Biomimicry Confluence.
Dates are Thursday the 21st and Friday the 22nd of March 2024.

The aim is to (re)connect the Global Biomimicry Network and learn what's working, where and why. We hope to create a space for a collective direction for biomimicry and facilitate networking opportunities with two key themes: 1.) Global Biomimicry Network, and 2.) Biomimicry and Better Business.

You can learn more about the Biomimicry Confluence

A two day conference on biomimicry - where nature-inspired ideas, innovations and innovators flow together.

the Genius Without a Brain
For many, their intro to slime mold was watching it solve puzzles more efficiently than Harvard grad students. But slime mold’s tricks creep way beyond maze walls. In Part 2 of our The Bizarre Genius of a Brainless Blob series by contributor Katie Losey, we get out the microscope for a closer look at slime mold itself. For starters, there are > 900 types and 720 sexes. Its official name is Physarum polycephalum (translation: many headed slime) and while the organism starts life with a spore, it’s not mold, a fungus, plant or animal. Slime mold is an amoeba–an ancient form of life–and a classification that took scientists a long time to come to (initially they were misclassified as fungi, hence their nickname). For our purposes in biomimicry, slime mold presents human innovation with invaluable problem-solving insights.

"The pandemic has certainly illustrated our connection to nature" To understand our true nature I think it is vital to take a further step beyond the idea that everything is interconnected. Everything is inter-influenced - in a receptive-responsive relationship with one another and their surroundings. We can then move beyond entrapment in a 'web of life' to deep immersion in the 'flow of life'.

Television's longest-running science series has been at the forefront of exploring the climate crisis and our relationship with the natural world

More and more companies are redesigning all of its products for for circularity. In alignment with that in nature there is now wast.
Genius of life works with the transition from linear to circular. This involves, leadership, process for innovation, logistics. We all know why we need to do this transition, we work with the how and uses our experience making this transition with companies around the planet. 🌏

From computers that instantly disassemble themselves for recycling to AI-powered efficiency updates, Dell wants to be circular by 2030.

These workers, designers, patent holders and investors are not human. They are the myriad species with whom we share our landscapes: plants, fungi, insects, animals, and microbes. If they all went on strike, we would have no oxygen to breathe and no food to eat. Most rainfall would cease. Dead animals and plants would pile up, miles high, with no easy way to break back down into raw materials for continued life. Temperature regulation on Earth would deteriorate to the point that it would become uninhabitable. Meanwhile, our own human brains and bodies would cease to function.

In our busy lives a sustainable lifestyle can be a challenging commitment, but we can make a genuine difference 🌏

Looking beyond the current take-make-waste extractive industrial model, a circular economy aims to redefine growth, focusing on positive society-wide benefits. It entails gradually decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources, and designing waste out of the system. Underpinned by a transition to renewable energy sources, the circular model builds economic, natural, and social capital. It is based on three principles:

1. Design out waste and pollution

2. Keep products and materials in use

3. Regenerate natural systems

Thank you to all those who are making a difference in their lives. We need to keep encouraging others and inspiring zero waste solutions to real world problems 🗑️
