BUILDING A MORE INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY 💡

This focus has been at the heart of an exciting evaluation process we recently completed for . The goal was to map out norms and potential barriers – and, most importantly, to find new ways to strengthen the community for everyone.

The process included several key phases:
✅ Interviews with the target group to understand experiences and challenges
✅ A test workshop to refine suggested solutions
✅ Concrete recommendations for meaningful improvements
✅ A results-presentation designed for easy implementation

A huge thank you to all participants for sharing their valuable perspectives! ✨

We’re also very grateful for the trust GAME placed in us throughout this process:

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with NORM. With the goal of strengthening our volunteer community, Elin has been incredibly skilled at creating a safe space for our young people, allowing them to voice their concerns and ideas. As a result, we have received a wealth of new and highly concrete recommendations that we can directly apply in our daily work. A huge recommendation from us!”

SHARE YOUR INSIGHTS WITH US 💡

We’re excited to be part of a new research project supported by The Nordic Gender Equality Fund. This project focuses on understanding how men in Nordic and Baltic workplaces experience and respond to gender equality initiatives.

We’re currently looking for men who are willing to share their stories, perspectives and thoughts (positive as well as negative). If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, we’d love to hear from you! ✨ (see link to sign up in bio)

CULTIVATING CRITICAL REFLECTION AS A TEAM 💭

Elin is just about to complete the final round of facilitation in Malmö for this term, where she’s spent the past two years teaching leadership- and employee- teams a method that fosters critical and curious reflection within the organisation.

She says that each session has left her amazed by the outcomes observed and experienced by the participants. Here are three of their examples:

This method…
💡 “Helps us feel less alone with challenges at work”
💡 “Teaches us to view complex challenges from several different perspectives”
💡 “Improves our decision-making and saves time in the long run, because we are forced to slow our thinking down (wake up system 2) and get to the core of the challenge, rather than hurrying to solve something that turns out to be the wrong thing to focus on”

Thanks to all the participants for your commitment and bravery and to Anne Sandberg Holm, Søren Vinther Fjærestad and Karin Persson Haas from Væksthuset for a great collaboration and brilliant sparring 💫

INCLUSIVE MEETINGS: 5 TIPS AND TRICKS 🌟

In one of our latest workshops, we delved into the realm of inclusive meetings, ensuring that all team members — neurotypical and neurodivergent alike — feel valued and empowered to participate.

Here are some of our tips:

📋 PREPARATION IS KEY: Distribute a clear agenda before the meeting to allow everyone to prepare. Start off by reiterating the meeting’s purpose and agenda at the beginning.

⏱️ REMEMBER TO RECHARGE: Avoid running meetings for longer than 1h without a break. It helps maintain focus and energy levels.

📝 INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION FIRST: Encourage participants to jot down their ideas before sharing. This creates room to warm up and also minimises ’groupthink’.

👥 PEER-TO-PEER ENGAGEMENT: Before opening the floor, prompt attendees to discuss the topic with a colleague. This creates a more inclusive environment, especially for those of us who may need time to warm up or find it intimidating to speak in front of the whole team right away.

🔇 ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: Choose meeting spaces wisely, opting for quiet areas with minimal distractions whenever possible.

Are these steps implemented at your workplace? Do you have other tips to add to the list to make sure everyone’s voice is heard and valued? 💬✨

LIBRARIES SHOULD BE FOR EVERYONE 📚

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a handbook that we’ve been diligently working on in collaboration with Centralbibliotekerne/KulturForAlle for the past couple of months.

This handbook is designed for library staff who are committed to working with diversity and representation in practice. Packed with exercises, tools and practical tips, it’s tailored to support staff in their daily tasks - whether it’s purchasing new books, curating exhibitions or organising cultural events.

Our goal has been to empower library staff to move from analysis to action, creating broader representation and more inclusive spaces for all in their everyday.

We can’t wait to see it come to life and hear about its impact in libraries nationwide!

A big thank you to Liv Clausen, Mads Dyhr-Rasmussen, Mette Schønning Lybæch and Ea Elmer for great team work and to Centralbibliotekerne/KulturForAlle for having us on board again! ✨📖

NORM IS TURNING 4 TODAY! 🎉

NORM started as a leap of faith in a very uncertain time (2020) and has grown into an organisation that has achieved remarkable milestones in promoting norm-critical thinking across various sectors in Denmark and Sweden.

On this special day, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our courageous customers and collaboration partners in 2023 - what we do together makes a difference! ✨

And last but not least - a big thank you to our supportive community who have cheered us on and helped us celebrate the joyous (and at times challenging) ride the past four years have been 💛

Here’s to a 2024 filled with solidarity, liberation, inspiring collaborations and visionary projects! 🥂🍉

NORM-CRITICAL INCLUSION PROCESS AT MADS NØRGAARD

Since the beginning of this year, we have - in collaboration with Cecilie Nørgaard from Mangfold - led all staff and managers at Mads Nørgaard Copenhagen and Nørgaard På Strøget through a thorough inclusion-process, that has now resulted in a tangible action plan for the coming 3 years.

Our overarching goal has been to provide the entire team - from leadership to dedicated warehouse staff - with the knowledge and skills they need to work strategically with DEI and create lasting change across all facets of the company.

Here's a quick snapshot of the journey:

📊 Thorough data collection (survey and observations)
🧠 Comprehensive norm-critical training (across all departments)
💡 Analysis —> resulting in 60 actionable recommendations
🔄 A visionary 3-Year Action Plan

...and the work continues!

It's been a pleasure to work this closely with a company that insists on pushing for social change in so many areas of their business and understands that change doesn't happen over night but requires time, determination, skills and investment.

Special thanks to Mads Nørgaard, Jacob Østergaard Andersen Bing, Kristina Skov, Gordon Jensen and Beate Bernhoft for prioritising this work and wanting to not just talk the talk but also walk the walk! 🔥🌈⭐️

“TALK TO YOUR STAFF AND TAKE THEIR CONCERNS AND INPUT SERIOUSLY”🍷🍝

The whole hospitality industry is grappling with a lot of challenges and has a legacy of harmful work environments, so we are happy to see that some of our clients - restaurant OMAR, SAFARI and - are getting some attention around the steps they have taken to create a more sustainable and inclusive workplace.

In this article talks to the founder and owner Simon Leo Hansen about some of the initiatives NORM were involved in developing and the effects they have had:

💡a safer space policy
💡leadership training
💡a code of conduct
💡investing in the well-being of employees
💡seeking feedback and valuing input from all staff members

This past weekend, NORM went to Oslo to participate in the Diversify Nordics Summit and attend the Blaze Inclusion Awards-gala as nominees in the Catalyst-category.

Unfortunately we didn’t win the regional round, but we are very proud to have won the national round and returned home with a nice acknowledgement of this (proudly displayed in this photo 😅), as well as a bunch of new connections in the DEIB-field.

Thanks to everyone who voted for us, and everyone who has cheered us on since day one (special shout out to our queer-community in Copenhagen 💜), and thanks to all the other amazing practitioners around the Nordics who keep pushing for change - it was a pleasure to spend the weekend with you! (Marlon Brown, Fran Partridge, and among others) ✨
