A Long Journey
Can you ask a deck of cards a personal question? A personal question about the cards themselves, that is. That's precisely what I did today when I received a set of old Kipper cards from Germany. The cards date from somewhere between the late 1940s and early 1950s. Kipper cards are an old German card oracle system whose history most likely originates in Bavaria. The deck consists of 36 cards and can be astonishingly precise in describing everyday situations and how they might unfold. But what I wanted to ask the cards about was something else entirely. Namely: "Tell me your story." And this is what came up:
Ein langer Weg (A Long Road), Gerichtsperson (A Person of Judgment/Authority), Eine Reise (A Journey), and the bottom card, Zusammenkunft (A Meeting/Reunion).
The answer is quite interesting: "For a very long time, I have given answers to people, and now I am on a journey and have arrived with you."
The answer sounds very plausible. In any case, this meeting with the new cards couldn't have turned out more positively.

The Wrong Mailbox

A little story from everyday life

For more than a month, I had been waiting for a letter from France containing a tarot deck. Once again, I checked my mailbox—but to no avail. To my surprise, however, I found a letter addressed to my neighbour.

By then, I had begun to think that my own letter had been lost, and I decided it was time to ask the cards what might have happened to it. The German Kipper cards seemed like the perfect choice. After shuffling the deck thoroughly, I asked a simple question:

What has happened to my letter from France?

The cards clearly indicated that the letter had been delivered to a nearby neighbour by mistake, that it was safe and unharmed, and that the situation would have a happy ending. I would receive my letter.

My neighbour had rarely been home during the period when I had been checking my mailbox almost every day, so I assumed it might be quite some time before the mystery was resolved.

But later that very same day, shortly after doing the reading, my neighbour unexpectedly appeared. Sure enough, my missing letter was sitting in their mailbox.
