"So Danish!" is a wonderful new permanent exhibit at the Danish Architecture Center (Dansk Arkitektur Center) – and I’m not just saying that because I’m the voice of the English-language audioguide.
“So Danish!” covers building from the Viking era to future space development, taking in church architecture, Copenhagen’s five-finger plan for suburbanization, and the new sustainable skyscrapers in Aarhus.
It pays tribute to the brick, the very basis of Danish architecture – unlike Sweden to the north and Germany to the south, Denmark didn’t have endless forests to turn into wood housing, so most structures are based on bricks, even the old half-timbered houses from the medieval era.
And it takes a brief tour into interior design. (I didn’t know the famous Hans Wegner chair was used onstage at the Nixon-Kennedy debates.)
