🔬 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

A recently published preclinical study investigated the effects of different concentrations of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on skin wound healing in rats.

The findings contribute to the ongoing discussion around PRP therapies and highlight the importance of understanding how platelet concentration may influence the wound healing process.

While further research is needed to determine clinical implications for patients, studies like this help advance our knowledge of regenerative approaches in wound management.

Education is key to strengthening wound care in home settings

Home care staff can include a wide range of professionals and caregivers, from community nurses to care assistants and informal carers. Providing high-quality wound care in the home requires more than clinical skills. It requires the right knowledge, confidence, and support across all members of the care team.

Can care bundles help prevent pressure ulcers in older adults?

A systematic review published in the Journal of Wound Management examined the impact of care bundles on pressure ulcer prevention in adults aged 65 years and older. Analysing 11 studies involving more than 20,000 participants, the review found that structured, evidence-based care bundles were generally associated with lower rates of pressure ulcer development among at-risk older adults. [Journal of Wound Management]

Common bundle components included risk assessment, skin inspection, repositioning, nutritional support, pressure-relieving devices and staff education. One meta-analysis found that patients receiving care bundles were 55% less likely to develop a pressure ulcer compared with those receiving usual care, while several quality improvement initiatives reported substantial and sustained reductions in pressure ulcer incidence. The findings highlight the potential of care bundles as an effective strategy for pressure ulcer prevention in older adults, while also emphasising the importance of consistent implementation, staff engagement and ongoing evaluation to achieve the best outcomes. [Journal of Wound Management]
