The perfect galley wherever you want it
Every cruising sailor knows that the galley is at the heart of a happy ship, and the galley is one area where our owners put in a great deal of thought.

Whether you’d prefer a swift Faurby Performance Cruiser or a Deck Saloon passage maker, you can choose exactly the galley that works best for you.

Not only can we install all the equipment you need – fridges, freezers, microwaves, gas or induction, perhaps even a dishwasher? We’ll also design the galley where you want it and provide the maximum amount of usable stowage too.

On our Performance Cruisers, you can choose between a linear, L-shaped or J-shaped galley – depending on the model.

On our Deck Saloon range, we take your options to another level (literally) by letting you choose where you’d like your galley located. You’ll have the option of a lower forward galley ahead of the saloon, a raised galley – at the same level as the saloon, or a lower aft galley aft of the saloon – en route to the aft suite. Each design and location has advantages and disadvantages, and your solution will depend on how you plan to use the boat and its galley.

After all, a solution for those wanting to cross oceans will be different from those who occasionally cook on board. How you use your yacht and your cruising aspirations will determine your priorities and help shape not only the galley, but the whole interior layout of your yacht.

We’re here to help you make the decisions that are right for you. Visit https://faurby.com for more inspiration

Nothing sails like a Faurby Performance Cruiser; here’s why:
On all our Faurby Performance Cruisers, we've moved the headsail sheet track well inboard. Taking the lead for the sheet closer to the mast makes the slot between the headsail and the mast narrower, so the exit and entry angles are closer to the centreline – and closer to the wind. This narrower gap provides more power to the mainsail; generating more lift, it’s this that helps our yachts sail closer to the wind.

But how close is close? Well, a centreboard cruising yacht will sail up to 38-40º off the apparent wind; cruising yachts with fin keels will make it to around 35º; cruiser racers 30º-35º; and production race boats around 27º-30º. However, combining a narrow sheeting angle, a sleek hull, and a deep optimised keel – as we do on our Performance Cruisers- you can expect around 25º, in full race trim with a good set of sails, even as high as 23º.

Not only does this arrangement optimise windward performance, but it also keeps headsail sizes smaller and easier to manage, making the sail easier and faster to tack than an overlapping genoa. As all our yachts are designed with a high-aspect-ratio rig, we can offer the option of a self-tacking jib with little penalty to performance.

Sailing enjoyment and performance have always been key features in the 50 years we’ve been building Faurby yachts. Therefore, when Faurby and Nordship merged, the Deck Saloon range inherited some of the features that make Faurby sailboats so enjoyable to sail. Nordship’s yachts were already established as good sailing boats, as the German magazine Yacht discovered during a group test of deck saloon yachts:

“At 120 degrees to the wind and more, none of the test boats can decisively pull away; the group remains more or less close together.

It's a different story upwind. Close-hauled, the Nordship 380DS shows more potential than the competition and pulls ahead. This is surprising because, with a hull length of 11.60m (38ft), the Danish boat is around 40cm (1ft 4in) shorter than the competing yachts from Sirius (40DS) and Moody (41DS), and with its comparatively conservative hull lines, it also has a significantly shorter waterline. The Nordship 380 DS not only sails fast, but can also point very well upwind in comparison, and it accelerates better. With a total weight of 9.0 tons, it is around two tons lighter than its competitors.”

With Faurby’s experience, the former range of Nordship deck saloons received upgrades to improve their performance. For example, by using a composite keel construction and locating heavier service items (tankage, calorifiers, generators, etc.) towards the centre of the yacht, we have reduced the ballast required in the keel, making a lighter, faster yacht.

The result is a modern range of yachts that are lighter and carry above-average sail area than other deck saloon yachts of a comparable size.

Twin-cockpit design: practical and comfortable
Our deck saloon yachts feature a twin-cockpit design – with two distinct spaces: the aft cockpit for the helmsman and the forward cockpit for the crew.

The forward cockpit area is a relaxing, sheltered, comfortable and rope-free space. Without lines, clutches, and winches to entice little fingers, it's a great space for children, less-experienced crew, or just those wanting to unwind and do nothing.

The rear cockpit is for the helm, it’s where the action happens; the on-deck control centre, with the wheel, instruments, and where all the lines are led to. We believe it should be easy for our yachts to be sailed single-handed. Our deck saloon yachts appeal to couples, so when your partner is off watch and you're on the helm alone, you can trim and reef all the sails without needing to leave the wheel. It makes it straightforward to steer and adjust lines day or night without losing control of the boat.

Sleek hulls for better speed and comfort, and more enjoyable sailing
While some builders optimise their yachts by reducing the weight of the interior, creating a sparse living space that lacks quality materials or comfort, our Performance Cruisers are designed from the outset to provide hand-crafted luxury and sail fast. There is a modern trend for broad hulls that offer lots of living space in harbour; these sail best off the wind. Our hulls, however, are narrow and sleek, and are designed foremost to behave predictably and fast at all angles of sail. The sleek hulls are more streamlined, create less drag, cut through the water more efficiently, and make our Performance Cruisers more enjoyable to sail.

The buoyancy and underwater shape provided by our hull design are also more similar fore and aft. Unlike modern designs with excessive aft buoyancy, our yachts don’t bounce and see-saw over waves; they provide a predictable motion that carries them steadfastly on through a chop, minimising movement and maximising comfort. Because our hulls don’t rely on form stability the same way modern designs do, Faurbys also stubbornly refuse to be flustered by gusts.

Full-beam owner’s cabins have long been popular with owners of centre-cockpit yachts – especially those who cruise long-term and live on board. However, rather than the high cockpit and low saloon of a centre-cockpit yacht, we have raised the saloon and designed a lower, more comfortable aft cockpit, while retaining the beloved (and fabulous) full-beam owner’s suites.

Our hand-crafted, tailor-made cabins are the most spacious available on deck saloon yachts of similar sizes. On all but our 360DS, the owner’s suite is aft – where the hull volume offers a low wide berth, a private en suite heads, and the maximum space that can be completely customised to your requirements. On our 360DS, the owner’s suite is forward – and we’ve seen owners of our other models devote this space to themselves too.

We can completely customise the layouts of our yachts for you, based on who you sail with and the sailing you do.

As no two people are the same, neither are two Faurby yachts; every yacht is as individual as you are.

By the time a Faurby teak deck is finished, it is around 8mm (1/3 in) thick solid teak, so you’re left with a durable and beautiful teak deck that will last you many years.

Because no screws are used on the finished deck and the caulking is the full thickness of the planking, it provides many, many years of service and can be sanded to almost its full thickness before it needs replacing.

We’re often asked how long teak decks last, and it’s down to the owners and how the decks are looked after. Some owners like the weathered silver look of teak; others will sand and clean it and keep it looking fresh. At the end of the day, it’s your boat and your choice.

After 6-8 years, you may choose to sand 1/2 mm off the teak and caulking to give you the feel of a brand-new teak deck.

Congratulations to the owners of Elfe (Faurby 335E) and Heureka (Faurby 370) for winning first and second place in their class of the Grömitzer DoubleHand this weekend.

The 7-hour race took place in Lübeck Bay, Germany, and, as its name suggests, is a double-handed race that uses the Yardstick handicap system, with credit given to yachts that choose not to fly spinnakers.

The race consisted of three YS =100, and the two Faurby yachts also came 5th and 6th overall, with 25 minutes separating 1-6th place.

If you've been racing your Faurby and have results to share, please tag us Faurby Yacht, and we can share your success!

"Willkommen zurück" an die Elfe!

Eine echte Siegerin kommt zurück: leicht wie eine Feder holte die Elfe, eine Faurby 335E vom SVH im letzten Jahr den Platz 1 in ihrer Gruppe! Mit Steuermann Jan HEINRITZ und Crew Moritz HAAGA dieses Jahr wieder dabei – ein starkes Team, das weiß, wie man gewinnt.

Jetzt heißt es: Titelverteidigung! Viel Erfolg!
