I grew up in the charming town of Soenderborg in the southern part of Denmark, which is 4488km away from what should have been my hometown, The Valley of Doves, in Palestine. Being Palestinian and unable to visit my home, literature gave me wings to visit my beloved country with my heart and mind. With literature I was able to experience the breathtaking olive groves, the smells of thyme, and the soft hills decorating the landscape of Palestine. Literature enabled me to connect with and feel the ancient soul inhabiting the holy places of that sacred country.
Palestinian literature is part of the ancient and rich Arabic literary tradition that dates back as early as the 5th century AD. In my lecture about the history of Arabic literature I introduce the main epochs in that literary tradition and its main contributors.
