In the Dominican Republic, Cana is used as a material to cover many of the roofs in resorts, airports and tourist attractions. Its beauty is widely known and looks exotic, tropical and gives the architecture a natural and Caribbean essence.
Protection of these buildings is first and foremost in the minds of the owners and the safety personal in charge. Ignition can be from many sources with the spread of fire being extreme. F500EA encapsulating agent applied to this type of cana roofing systems is an excellent defense for this application. Burnback resistance and the creation of micells within the plant tissue enables first responders a little time to control the fire before it gets out of hand. Below is a demonstration that shows plant material being exposed to open flame without ignition. you will notice that there is a charring of the plant however it will not ignite. Demonstrated in the video below shows how dangerous and powerful one half of the lithium strip removed from a double A battery can be when put in contact in pure water. Imagine the consequences attempting to extinguish an electric vehicle battery pack with thousands of gallons of pure water. Testing has shown that powder or AFFF foam is unable to control the reaction to Lithium in water. F500EA has been recognized under NFPA 18A section 7.7 to extinguish these fires and control thermal runaway.
