We love seeing local talent find inspiration in the things that surround us. Nicole Coradín, a Dominican artist, shared with us her beautiful sargassum illustrations, showing us how she sees this marine resource through an artistic lens. 🇩🇴✨

She even took her artwork a step further, bringing her illustrations to life through clothing.

It’s always interesting to see how the same subject can be interpreted in so many different ways. This time, sargassum became a source of inspiration for art, design, and creativity. 🌿

Parte de nuestra historia en nos lleva al Departamento de Ingeniería Mecánica del (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), donde comenzó a tomar forma el trabajo detrás de nuestras soluciones para la recolección de sargazo. 👀

Desde entonces, el proyecto ha seguido creciendo. Lo que comenzó con el desarrollo de soluciones para recolectar sargazo hoy forma parte de una visión más amplia a través de ,que integra a SOS Carbon, SOS Biotech y Fundación Terra & Marre. 🌊✨

Cada organización aporta una perspectiva distinta. Desde la recolección del sargazo en el mar hasta su transformación en productos de valor y el trabajo con las comunidades, seguimos buscando formas de abordar este desafío desde diferentes frentes.

Volver a esos primeros pasos en 📍Boston nos permite ver cuánto ha evolucionado el camino y todo lo que se ha construido desde entonces. Una historia que comenzó con la búsqueda de soluciones y que continúa desarrollándose desde el Caribe. 🌎

We were at the Global High-Level Forum on Energy Transition! ⚡️🌎

Our CEO, Andrés Bisonó León, and Project Engineering Lead, Eddison Herrera, represented SOS Carbon at the forum hosted by IRENA at the Hotel El Embajador in Santo Domingo.

We shared how our sargassum collection systems contribute to addressing a growing Caribbean challenge, and why managing this marine biomass is also part of a broader conversation about sustainable resource use and the energy transition.

As countries explore new pathways toward more sustainable energy systems, finding ways to responsibly manage and valorize resources like sargassum is an important part of the conversation.

So, what exactly is sargassum? 🌊🤔

It’s a type of brown seaweed that floats in the ocean and provides shelter for marine life. But when large amounts drift toward the Caribbean, it can become a serious challenge for coastal ecosystems, tourism, and the communities that depend on them.

At SOS Carbon, we collect sargassum before it reaches the shore. And through SOS Biotech, we explore how this same biomass can be transformed into useful products for agriculture.

So, sargassum isn’t just what you see washing up on the beach. It’s a marine resource with a complicated impact and potential that we’re learning how to make use of.

That’s the story behind it. 👀

No hay “solución al sargazo” sin la gente que vive y trabaja en nuestras costas. 🐟🩵

Por eso, nuestro trabajo también se trata de trabajar con pescadores y comunidades costeras.

El LCM nos permite llevar la recolección mar adentro, utilizando embarcaciones locales y creando nuevas oportunidades para quienes ya conocen este mar mejor que nadie.

Estamos en octubre y el sargazo todavía sigue llegando. 👀

La realidad es que este fenómeno forma parte de nuestro día a día en el Caribe y cada año nos obliga a pensar en nuevas formas de responder.

La buena noticia es que no estamos empezando de cero. En nuestra región ya hay personas y organizaciones trabajando en soluciones para el sargazo.

En SOS Carbon, por ejemplo, llevamos años trabajando en su recolección antes de que llegue a nuestras costas.

El Caribe también está creando respuestas para un reto que es nuestro. ✨⛵️

During New York Climate Week, our Head of Communications, Analie Quezada, had the opportunity to attend the Breakthrough Journalism: Climate Stories, Collective Action roundtable at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, hosted by the Pulitzer Center.

The conversation brought together journalists and climate communicators to explore how climate stories are told, what makes them resonate, and how storytelling can help bring these issues to wider audiences.
