Have you tried to think your business like a designer?
Design helps bring ides to life, there’s no doubt about it. It’s exactly why we recommend “The Designing for Growth Field Book”, an approach to solving management situations, especially suited for conditions of high uncertainty.
According to the Field Book, the design thinking experience consists of four main questions:
o What is, which explores the current reality.
o What if, which takes a look at a new future.
o What wows, which helps make some decisions.
o What works, which helps brings us to action.
Let’s a brief look at each one of these.
What is begins with what’s happening right now, therefore envisioning the right kind of problem for design thinking to solve. Here we learn about the stakeholders we aim to provide for.
What if is a creative and robust process, where concepts that can later be evaluated, prototyped and possibly developed, arise. Here, we have developed some concepts we believe could provide potential value for our stakeholders.
What wows is the intersection of a three way Venn diagram between: what stakeholders want, what you are able to produce and deliver, and the achievement of your organization’s goals. Whatever must wow, must hold true to these three criteria.
What works is where the design process ends. Here, invention and innovation come face to face! “Invention is doing something in a novel way; innovation requires that the invention be implemented and create value.” Innovations produces better outcomes for real people
