🐴 Aktuaalne Kaamera käis tutvumas Eesti esimese kloonvarsaga

Estonia's first cloned foal was born on Saturday, making the country the second in Europe to develop the capability to clone horses.

The foal was born at a stable in Luunja, Tartu County, on April 11, with the help of veterinary scientists from the Estonian University of Life Sciences.

🌟Tere tulemast maailma, pisike ilmaime!
Saage tuttavaks Wodan M Alpha'ga - esimese Eestis loodud kloon-varsaga. Terve, tugev ja imeliselt mänguline tegelane 🦄

See märkimisväärne saavutus on suurepärase meeskonnatöö, viljaka rahvusvahelise koostöö ning meie ülikooli teadlaste pühendumuse tulemus koos meie kauaaegse partneri Luunja Stud OÜ-ga.
Oleme ääretult uhked ja tänulikud! 🩵

🌟 Welcome to the world, you little miracle!
Meet Wodan M Alpha — the first Estonian-made cloned foal. Healthy, strong, and wonderfully playful 🦄

This remarkable achievement is the result of outstanding teamwork, fruitful international collaboration, and the dedication of our University’s scientists together with our long-term partner, Luunja Stud OÜ 💛

🌟 So thrilled to share some truly special news! 🌟
Our latest paper just got published: "Metabolomics reveals early predictors of blastocyst formation in equine ICSI-derived embryos" 🐴🔬
This work feels like a little milestone in equine reproductive science — one of the first in-depth metabolomic looks at Day 4 equine ICSI embryos. We're hopeful it helps pave the way for gentler, non-invasive ways to spot which embryos have the best chance to thrive, ultimately making assisted reproductive technologies even better for horses and the people who love them.
A few exciting highlights from the study:
- Viable embryos (those that go on to form blastocysts) consume more DOPA than non-viable ones.
- They secrete higher levels of hippuric acid and glutamate.
- We saw elevated lipid markers like DG 18:0_20:0 in viable embryos.
- Higher ceramide and steroid levels also point toward successful blastocyst formation.
It's amazing to think these tiny metabolic clues, detected so early, could perhaps one day help improve success rates and reduce guesswork in embryo selection.
But the real magic? This didn't happen in isolation.
A massive, heartfelt THANK YOU to my wonderful co-authors and colleagues — your brilliant ideas, tireless dedication, late-night discussions, and endless support made this possible. I truly couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you. Grateful beyond words for this team and for the chance to contribute something meaningful together. ❤️
Here's to more discoveries, healthier foals, and the quiet miracles happening in labs and barns every day.
