A dog bite is an emergency, even if the wound looks small.
Quick action can prevent serious infections and complications.
If a dog attacks you, follow these steps immediately:
1- Don’t run or scream
Stay as calm as possible.
2-Stand still like a “tree”
Arms close to your body, hands closed, eyes down.
3- Use something as a barrier
Put a bag, jacket, backpack, chair between you and the dog.
4- Back away slowly
Move slowly to a safe place (car, building, behind a gate). Don’t turn your back.
5- If the dog bites and won’t let go
Push into the bite (not away) and protect your face/neck.
- Wash the wound right away
Clean the area thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 5 minutes.
- Stop the bleeding
Apply gentle pressure using a clean cloth or bandage.
- Seek medical attention immediately
Dog bites may require:
Rabies vaccination
Tetanus shot
Antibiotics
- Report the incident if necessary
Especially if the dog is unknown, stray, or behaving aggressively.
Never ignore a dog bite.
