• Project (CS-2021-CAT02-1268) DIMENSIONS OF LIGHT
By: Harsha Verma, Srishti Sarkar, Shambhavi

• Lighting design approach:
“Specially created based on the rich Islamic designs and the desert element of Egypt. The concept presents a model for a ceiling hanging luminaire which is designed for a residential use. The form begins with a 350 mm diameter cylindrical Islamic jali (latticed screen, usually with an ornamental pattern constructed through the use of calligraphy, geometry or natural patterns) in the center, surrounded by organic ringed panels around it. The Jali is inspired by the Arabic translated phrase of (Dimensions of Light). The surrounding panels are made of a dusky shade of fabric to reflect the texture of sand, commonly seen on Egyptian land. The panel holds the shape due to the outer aluminum framework. The diameter of the outermost panel is 590 mm while the innermost panel is 450 mm.”

• Project (CS-2021-CAT02-1168) THE SAMARAA CHANDELIER
By: Mohamed Ebrahim, Mostafa Mahmoud, Abdalrahman Mohamed,
Mohamed Adel

• Lighting design approach:
“The design idea stems from the abstraction of one of the famous landmarks, the mosque of Samarra or the great mosque in Iraq, which is one of the most important islamic monuments. It contains a minaret, which is the most famous Islamic minarets because of its distinctive and unique architectural form, which was built in a spiral shape. The Unit is characterized by a spiral shape inspired by the shape of the minaret in the Samarra Mosque. The Lighting of the chandelier is characterized by calm colors, including white and warm and specifically for the intensity of illumination, a number of lamps were used to suffice for a large space, such as large and spacious halls with 10 bulbs in total.
The materials of the outer body of the chandelier are characterized by durability and hardness. They are chrome, copper and aluminum; all of them are polished to give luster with the reflection of light on it. Aluminum plays a key role in improving efficiency, reducing global energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as improving product lifespan and reducing demand for natural resources. The use of the Islamic pattern as an expression of the Islamic spirit in the form and unit of illumination which is an overlapping of geometric shapes with each other.”

• Project (ED-2020-CAT02-1229) NOOR PENDANT LIGHT
By: Aditi KY, Anas Abdul Latheef

• Lighting design approach:
“The Noor pendant light is inspired from Islamic geometry and shapes, the curved leaf like embodiment symbolizes the mathematically derived patterns which have been intensively used in the Islamic architecture.”

The Luminaire has 3 source of light, a larger globe enveloped between the diffuser, medium sized globe which peaks of out the organic envelop and third source that is the up lighter that showcases the fluted curved glass diffuser that forms light and shadows of the light itself on to the ceiling. Metal is a versatile material, it makes the luminaire look sleek and lighter. The metal body houses the bent/ curved fluted glass or it is wrapped with banana fibre paper. The light from the lamp is passed through the fluted glass diffuser to create patterns of light and shadow on the ceiling. Here fluted curved glass or the banana fibre paper is used to create the play of light and shadows on to the ceiling.

• Project (CS-2021-CAT02-1214) DOA IMON
By: Pimpisuth Apaipim, Kanthida Koosuwan, Korapak Prairungruang
• Lighting design approach:
“PENDANT FOR THE EARTH AND EVERYONE: (DOA IMON) is affordable for every Muslim family with the commercially viable and low priced material, aluminium. Owning to almost endlessly recyclable ability of main material, this aluminum pendant makes it sustainable and environmentally friendly.”

TRANSFORMING AN EMPTY SPACE INTO A SACRED MOSQUE

The shadow effect, created by the pattern of (DOA IMON) on a ceiling represents the ornamental and decorative pattern in the mosque. Located in a prayer Room or one's house, the pendant creates the spiritual and religious space, which seems like the mosque atmosphere. DOA IMON fulfills the empty room only with its shadow effect but builds up the great impact in the space.
GEOMETRY - 2D FORM TO 3D FORM
The 5 pillars of Islam is modified to the simple geometry, pentagon. Each pillar stands for each corner of the pentagon. The 2d pentagons assemble into the 3d form, creating the outer frame of the pendant.

SUB ELEMENT

Linear Shape Simplified from Du'a Hand Gesture, both Hands Siding to the Sky. Du'a linear shapes are placed, reflected and rotated one by one, aligning to each side of the pentagon. All sub elements form the shadow effect, resembling the centralized Islamic pattern.

• Project (CS-2021-CAT02-1181) BLOSSOMS OF LIGHT
By: Natnaree Supudomkul, Wanicha Nakkhao, Kunsinee Singtothong

• Lighting design approach:
“The lamp is designed from the olive flower, an important plant in Islamic culture. The olive tree is mentioned in the Qur'an saying: The luster of the olive oil in the lamp is the guiding light of God. In addition, olives are trees that have many uses and have been integrated in the Islamic civilization for a long time.
The design uses geometry from olive flowers, as Islamic art often depicts geometric shapes from nature, five-pointed stars from petals, circles and stars from stamens. With a layer of openwork petals, the layer of pistil that is part of the structure and the male pollen hanging to create dimensions to the user
The light source is an LED strip light, a small incandescent lamp and a frosted light reflecting the shadows of Islamic geometric patterns from the flower petals. It represents a show that blooms according to the blossoms of light concept. The lighting is used at 3000K to create a soft, warm, glorious feeling faith in Islam.
Materials included: Petal edge : cold-rolled steel sheet, thickness 1.5 mm., width 2 cm.; Stencil steel : thickness 2 mm.; Lamp base : round steel, DIA 16 cm. and 10 cm. ; Round steel pipe : DIA 1/2 inch and 1 inch ; Glass pendant : crystal.”
