"Desperate" means misrable and it can be used to describe someone's bad feeling or mood or hard is his situation. However, if we add (ly) to it to become desprately, it will be used to emphasize the extreme degree of something.

Ex: I desperately need a new laptop.
He desperately loves his girlfriend.

من المواقف اللي ممكن تعبر عنها بطرق كتير هي لما متسمعش حد كويس او متاخدش بالك هو قال ايه
تقدر تقول حاجة من الحاجات دي

لو بطريقة غير مؤدبة هتقول
- Say what?
- what did you say?
- what?
- what was that?
لو بطريقة مؤدبة هتقول
- sorry?
- pardon me!
- come again?
- sorry, I didn't catch that!
- would you please repeat what you said?
- excuse me!

لما تكون عايز تقول انك مش قادر تعمل حاجة ممكن تستخدم التركيبة دي
I'm having a hard time + verb(ing)
زي مثلا لو مش سامع حد ممكن تقوله
I'm having a hard time hearing you
او لو تعبان لدرجة انك مش قادر تفتح عينك ممكن تقول
I'm having a hard time opening my eyes
