"Rejection Therapy" is both a social game and self-development exercise designed to help people overcome the fear of rejection. The idea is simple:
👉 You intentionally seek out situations where you are likely to be rejected, so you can desensitize yourself and learn that rejection isn’t as painful or life-ending as it feels.
It was originally created by Jason Comely (a Canadian entrepreneur), and it later became more popular through Jia Jiang’s “100 Days of Rejection” challenge and his TED Talk.
Core Principles
- Seek Rejection – Every day, try something that could result in rejection.
- Shift Your Mindset – See rejection as feedback, not failure.
- Build Resilience – The more you experience it, the less scary it becomes.
- Discover Opportunities – Sometimes you’ll actually get a “yes,” which opens doors.
Examples of Rejection Therapy Challenges
- Ask for a free coffee refill at Starbucks.
- Request a discount in a retail store, even if it’s unusual.
- Ask to take a picture with a stranger.
- Knock on a neighbor’s door and ask for a random item (like an egg).
- Request an impromptu tour of a business you walk past.
- Sit in first class on a plane and ask if you can stay there.
- Give a compliment to someone you don’t know.
