Nile for Mining Company (NMCo) was established in 1982. It is one of Nile for Investment & Development enterprises. It is considered to be Egypt’s first major industrial private sector mining company and one of the Middle East leading suppliers of raw materials. NMCo started in 1982 with 30 employees increased within 11 hard working years to be 600 turned now to exceed 1000 of highly experienced e
mployees spread in the head office, factories, mines and quarries beside temporary labors. The company won the Production Cup – before the prize was stopped – two times. The first was in 1985 – after 3 years from the company establishment – the second was in 1993. In 1993 NMCo’s chairman & delegation member Mr. HelalAbdallah Helal put forward a proposal of presenting, in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Egypt, the following two annually honorary awards in recognition of Geologist Monir Elkholy:
1. Monir Elkholy Award, 2000 Egyptian Pounds, to be awarded to the author/s of the paper in the field of mineral deposits published in the current issue of the Annuals of the Geological Survey of Egypt.
2. Monir Elkholy Gold Medal, awarded annually for a scientist who, during his/her whole career, contributed much to the study of mineral deposits in Egypt. The proposal was accepted by the Geological Survey of Egypt and its chairman formulated a special committee to review and nominate the winners. Since its beginning, NMCo specialized in mines and quarries field by exploring, extracting and mining raw materials with the latest technology. In addition, treating, crushing and concentrating according to the International Standards. Nile for Mining (NMCo) main products are Silica Sand, Quartz, Dolomite, Feldspar and Talc. These products are essential in the manufacturing of a wide range of important industries such as Glass, Crystals, Chine, Ceramic, Porcelain, Foundries, Paints, Electronics … etc. Note worthy that the demands of these products are increasing in today’s society.
