Street kiosks nowadays are a ubiquitous retailing establishment with omnipresence in the lives of Egyptians, particularly Cairenes. They are an inescapable pit-stop for buying drinks, ci******es and snacks, reloading mobile phones, paying utility bills, asking for directions and convening socially. The obvious and immense rise in the value and volume of products sold in street kiosks compared to their humble beginning marks an arbitrary evolution which outstretched a nominal microfinance platform beyond its original purpose to become a distinct retail format in the traditional trade channels. Proximity to the people is what makes street kiosks stand out among the other retail formats in traditional trade and is a key ingredient in their value proposition and revenue generation. But the standards of traditional trade restrict street kiosks from leveraging that edge to extract more value as a direct marketing platform. And this is where the opportunity lies. Revamping street kiosks for effective space and yield management principles – key parameters in modern trade – will shift their portfolio of branding, product placement and advertising services into a much higher gear that yields higher returns. Bringing Modern Trade Practices to a Traditional Trade Channel
Tatweer will replace licensed street kiosks in prime locations with a new kiosk design that optimizes retailing and advertising parameters - a total makeover - and qualifies this retail format to be an effective consumer touch-point for sponsors and the focal point for a new set of business services and communal activities. Tatweer will bear the replacement cost in return for the rights to the outdoor media, product category sponsorships and TV spots featured in the new kiosks.
