CLUSTER is pleased to announce the conclusion of a four-day workshop from September 14th-18th on “Empowering the Informal City”. CLUSTER organized the workshop in collaboration with the Independent School for the City and AP+E: Practice for Architecture & Research in the Netherlands/Ireland, as well as Loom: Practice for cultural transformation in the Netherlands.

This research-design-build workshop was an extension to the ongoing research around the same topic, which studied and tested the solar chimney as a potential passive solution to be used in the typical housing units within informal settlements in Cairo, especially with the given rising temperatures.
The workshop included 10 local and international participants having both academic and professional backgrounds to investigate possible solutions to improve indoor thermal comfort levels in such housing and climate conditions. Participants grouped to design and build prototypes for 3 different alternatives: 1) a solar chimney enhanced according to the previous research and testing done, 2) a windcatcher, and 3) an evaporative cooling method.
The workshop took place at our creative lab in Ard al-Liwa, with the help of our team there as well as the local craftspeople in Ard al-Liwa.

يُسر مختبر عمران القاهرة - كلستر الاعلان عن إتمام ورشة العمل الثانية لمشروع "تمكين المدينة غير الرسمية" والتى أقيمت فى فترة من ١٤ إلى ١٨ سبتمبر . كلستر قامت بتنظيم الورشة بالشراكة مع المدرسة المستقلة للمدينة بروتردام، و AP+E: ممارسة للهندسة المعمارية والبحث في هولندا/أيرلندا، وLoom: ممارسة للتحول الثقافي في هولندا.

ارتكزت ورشة البحث والتصميم والتجريب على الدراسة الجارية حول الموضوع نفسه، حيث تم اختبار المدخنة الشمسية (السخان الهوائي) كحلٍّ غير ميكانيكي محتمل للإستخدام في الوحدات السكنية النموذجية داخل المناطق السكنية الغير رسمية في القاهرة، خصوصاً في ظل ارتفاع درجات الحرارة.

جمعت الورشة ١٠ مشاركين من خلفيات أكاديمية ومهنية من مصر وعدة دول للبحث في حلول ممكنة لتحسين مستويات الراحة الحرارية الداخلية في مثل هذه الظروف السكنية والمناخية. اجتمع المشاركون معًا لتصميم وبناء نماذج أولية لثلاث بدائل مختلفة وهم: 1) مدخنة شمسية مُحسّنة وفقًا للبحث والاختبارات السابقة، 2) ملقف هواء، و3) طريقة تبريد تبخيري. أقيمت الورشة في مختبرنا الإبداعي في أرض اللواء، بمساعدة فريقنا هناك بالإضافة إلى الحرفيين المحليين في أرض اللواء.

"ورشة صندوق الدنيا"

في إطار برنامج "قلم، ورقة، مقص" الذي تنظمه ( كلستر - الفابريقة ) لدعم المجتمع المحلي في أرض اللواء، تم تنظيم "ورشة صندوق الدنيا" في يوم الثلاثاء ٣ سبتمبر ٢٠٢٤. اشترك في الورشة ١٢ طفل بأعمار ما بين ٨-١٢ سنوات والتي تم خلالها صناعة وتجميع نموذج بسيط من صندوق الدنيا، ووضع رسومات أفكارها مستوحاة من قصة تم حكيهها، ثم مشاهدة الرسومات من خلال فتحة في الصندوق.

"Box of Wonders"

As part of the "Pen, Paper, Scissors" series of community workshops at Ard al-Liwa organized by CLUSTER-ALFABRIKA, a workshop titled "Box of Wonders" was held on Tuesday, 3rd of September 2024 where 12 children (between 8-12 years) participated in the workshop. During the workshop, the children built a mockup of the box of wonders, drew paintings inspired by a story that was narrated, and then watched their paintings rolling in the box.

يدعوكم مختبر عمران القاهرة للتصميم والدراسات (كلستر) لحضور الإطلاق التجريبي لوحدة الرعاية المجتمعية المصغرة والمتنقلة "إنقاذ على عجل" يوم السبت الموافق ١٣ يوليو فى الساعة ٧ مساءً بمقر كلستر-الفابريقة فى ارض اللواء. تم تصميم وتنفيذ المشروع بالشراكة مع استوديو (AP+E) للتصميم ومبادرة (LOOM) في هولندا، وبدعم من صندوق الصناعات الإبداعية.

Following a week of the Kaweela Exhibition and months of working on this project, CLUSTER would like to announce the conclusion of the Exhibition, where 11 furniture pieces designed by high-end designers and manufactured by local craftsmen from Ard al-Liwa were exhibited.

This Exhibition was organized by CLUSTER in collaboration with Pinocchio and with the support of the Wealth Inequality Initiative by the Julius Baer Foundation. It is part of the BICEIA project that integrates the designers and manufacturers in Cairo’s formal economy with the artisans and craftspeople in the informal economy.

يسر مختبر عمران القاهرة (كلستر) أن يعلن عن انتهاء معرض كاويلة بعد أسبوع ناجح للمعرض سبقه عدة شهور من التنظيم والتنفيذ، حيث تم عرض ١١ قطعة أثاث لمصممين موهوبين وحرفيين متميزين من أرض اللواء

قام مختبر عمران القاهرة (كلستر) بتنظيم هذا المعرض بالتعاون مع شركة بينوكيو للاثاث وبدعم من مبادرة ويلث إنيكوالتى، تحت مظلة مؤسسة جوليوس باير.
ويعد المعرض جزءًا من مشروع بيكيا الذى يهدف الى دمج المصممين والمبدعين في قطاع صناعة الاثاث الرسمي بالقاهرة مع الحرفيين في الاقتصاد غير الرسمي.

يسر مختبر عمران القاهرة - كلستر بدعوة سيادتكم لحضور افتتاح "معرض كاويلة" يوم ٢٢ فبراير ٢٠٢٤ الساعة ٧ مساءًا في مدرسة مصممى مصر بالدقى والذي ينظمه كلستر بالتعاون مع شركة بينوكيو للاثاث وبدعم من مبادرة ويلث إنيكوالتى، تحت مظلة مؤسسة جوليوس باير.

يستمر المعرض حتى يوم ٢ مارس ٢٠٢٤، حيث يضم مجموعة من قطع الأثاث المتميز كنتاج للتعاون بين الورش الحرفية في أرض اللواء ومصممين محترفين.

نحن متحمسون للإعلان عن بدء تنفيذ التصاميم التي تم تطويرها خلال ورشة العمل "المبادرة الخضراء 2"، بعد سلسلة من المراجعات وتطوير التصميم الذي تم توجيهه بناءً على اختبار النماذج الأولية مع ورش العمل المحلية وأعضاء المجتمع.
تهدف ورشة العمل "المبادرة الخضراء 2" إلى تصميم تدخلات حضرية صغيرة لتعزيز الجودة البصرية والبيئية في حي أرض اللواء.
أُقيمت الورشة الصيف الماضي في مختبر الفابريقة في أرض اللواء, بالتنسيق مع مختبر عمران القاهرة (كلستر) بالتعاون مع Everything Earth و Cascoland. كجزء من مشروع "اللارسمية كوسيط ابداعي" بدعم من السفارة الهولندية.
نحن لا نستطيع الانتظار لعرض نتائج الورشة على الموقع.

We are excited to announce the commencement of the implementation of the designs that was developed during the “Urban Green 2” Workshop, after a series of reviews and design development informed by the testing of the initial prototypes with the local workshops and community members.

The "Urban Green 2" workshop aims to design small urban interventions to enhance the visual and environmental quality in the Ard al-Liwa neighborhood.

The workshop took place earlier this summer, at ALFABRIKA Creative Lab in Ard al-Liwa, coordinated by CLUSTER Cairo in collaboration with Everything Earth and Cascoland. As part of the "Informality as Creativity" project which is supported by the Dutch Embassy.

We can’t wait to show you the results of the workshop on site.
