Every harvest represents more than food. It represents the water, land, energy and care that went into growing it. 🌱

On the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, we’re reminded that making food systems more sustainable starts long before food reaches our plates.

At Koppert, we work with growers to protect crops through biological solutions and build more resilient growing systems. It’s one part of a wider effort, across the entire food chain, to make better use of the resources behind every harvest.

Because food is too valuable to lose.

What does it take to bring life back to land at risk of becoming a desert? In Spain’s Altiplano Estepario, Yanniek Schoonhoven and Alfonso Chico de Guzman are showing how regenerative agriculture can help restore soils, biodiversity and resilience in one of Europe’s regions most affected by desertification.

At La Junquera Farm, they are working with nature to regenerate their land and create a future for farming in this challenging environment. Their message is refreshingly simple: “Fix what we broke.”

Yannieks story is part of a series of Resilience Food Stories, by photographer Ruud Sies and creative producer Hanneke van Hintum. Koppert has been a proud partner of this project since the start in 2017. This and many more stories are now on display until November as part of 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙: 𝘼 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 at the Nederlands Fotomuseum.

A natural solution can perform perfectly in a petri dish under controlled conditions. But for growers, that is only the beginning. At Koppert, we continuously test and refine how natural solutions can be applied effectively at scale, under real growing conditions. Because innovation only creates value when it works in practice.

In the Netherlands, for example, we are testing the use of lacewing larvae (𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘺𝘴𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘢) for aphid control in lettuce. Performance is one part of the challenge; practical application is just as important. That means exploring how lacewing eggs can be applied efficiently using standard field spraying equipment. It’s how we turn biological potential into solutions growers can actually use.

Reliably, efficiently and at scale.

As pest pressure rises in spring and summer, keeping whiteflies and thrips under control becomes increasingly challenging. Especially as resistance to conventional pesticides continues to grow.

For cut flower grower Rui Algarvio in Portugal, Mycotal has become an essential part of a reliable IPM strategy, delivering effective biological control when it matters most. Discover how Mycotal helps protect crops with proven performance, while remaining safe for beneficial insects and free from residue concerns. 🌺

As a long-standing Koppert partner, Tomatoworld continuously explores and demonstrates sustainable growing practices. So when spider mites appeared in the greenhouse, grower Nico Ammerlaan turned to Spidex Vital Plus to restore the balance.

Nico shares how Spidex Vital Plus helped control spider mites effectively and why biological control is an essential part of successful tomato cultivation.

Mycotal is now available in a 5 kg bag, designed to make daily use easier for growers. Use only the amount you need, then store the remaining product under recommended conditions for up to one month after opening.

With easier handling, simpler storage and no outer box, it’s a practical improvement that makes working with Mycotal even more convenient, while delivering the same trusted biological control of whitefly and thrips.

🌿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲

At Hopfengut in Germany, grower Lukas Locher is proving that the future of crop protection lies in working with nature, not against it. As the farm transitions to organic hop production, pests that were once controlled with pesticides are now managed by beneficial insects, creating a healthier and more balanced ecosystem.

Together with Koppert, Hopfengut uses innovative application techniques to deploy predatory mites efficiently throughout the crop. The result: effective pest control, stronger natural balance, and a more sustainable way of growing hops.
