A CEO once told a candidate who'd stumbled in her interview, don't ever blame baby brain.
He said his wife is a consultant dermatologist raising two kids, and nothing in his life has impressed him more than watching her do it.
She got the job.
I think about that story often. Not because biology doesn't affect us. It does. But the fog gets all the airtime and the pattern recognition underneath it gets none.

A year into a financial services job I hated, I went out on my own as a Financial Planner. Nobody called it a profession back then. The public rated it somewhere below a used car salesman.
It took years to produce any income worth mentioning. I didn't know what I was doing half the time. I just kept showing up and figuring it out client by client.
I know now, decades later, that finding work you can get paid for, not a job with one employer who can get rid of you whenever they like, is the only real security there is. A job is a bet on one client staying happy with you forever.

An RAF doctor removed my womb when I was not quite 30. Cervical cells, cancerous, caught early. I had two children under three at the time.
He asked if I wanted more kids. I said no. He said, and I remember this exactly, "Oh excellent, it's just a baby box after all, you don't need it anymore."
No one mentioned early menopause. No one mentioned HRT, because I don't think it existed yet for someone my age. I spent the next twenty odd years mildly insane and had no idea why.
Self advocacy in a doctor's office has never been optional for women. It's just better hidden now than it used to be.

My obituary is going to be a nightmare to write.
Compliance officer. Money laundering reporting officer. Director of People and Performance for a medical business. Non-exec on two boards, one in FX trading, one in sports technology. Author. Podcaster. Occasional therapist to anyone who corners me at a dinner party.
None of those things look alike. None of them were planned to sit together. I used to think that was a problem with me.
At 74 I've decided it's not a problem. It's six different people living in one body, and all six of them are getting on with the job.
