Marie Laurencin (Paris, 1883 – 1956)
Anémonas en un jarrón azul (1933)
Oil on canvas. 49 x 64 cm. Signed and dated lower left: “Marie Laurencin 1933”.

A delicate and poetic floral composition painted in 1933 by Marie Laurencin, one of the most distinctive figures of the Parisian avant-garde of the 20th century. In this work, anemones unfold softly within a blue vase, enveloped in the ethereal atmosphere and nuanced palette that define the artist’s unmistakable visual language.

Laurencin developed an intimate and lyrical style, set apart from the more radical movements of her time, characterized by powdery tones, subtly defined forms, and a deeply feminine sensitivity. This painting reflects the chromatic harmony and quiet elegance that have secured her strong recognition on the international market.

A representative work from her mature period, signed and dated, offering an excellent opportunity for collectors of modern art.

This piece (Lot 199) is currently available in post-sale.

Jean-Marc Nattier (Paris, 1685 – 1766)
Portrait of Marie-Anne de Châteauneuf, known as Mademoiselle Duclos

A magnificent portrait attributed to Jean-Marc Nattier, one of the leading portraitists of the French court in the 18th century. The work depicts Marie-Anne de Châteauneuf, renowned as Mademoiselle Duclos, a prominent actress of the Comédie-Française and a celebrated figure within the cultural circles of her time.

Nattier, known for his technical refinement and his ability to ennoble his sitters with idealized elegance, constructs here an image of remarkable psychological delicacy and formal sophistication. The softness of the modelling, the subtlety of the chromatic palette, and the careful attention to texture reflect the splendour of French portraiture at the height of the Rococo period.

A work of notable historical and artistic significance, linking portraiture, theatre and society in Ancien Régime France.

The painting is currently available in post-sale.
