Have you seen or heard these expressions? Germans love these set phrases. Be sure to use some of them if you want to sound more formal, elegant, and very… business-like.
Here are a few you’ll hear all the time at work:

🔹 Abschied nehmen von

➡️ sich verabschieden
German: „Wir nehmen heute Abschied von unserem alten System.“
English: (“Today we’re saying goodbye to our old system.”)

🔹 Bezug nehmen auf

➡️ sich beziehen auf
German: „Ich nehme Bezug auf Ihre E‑Mail vom Montag.“
English: (“I’m referring to your email from Monday.”)

🔹 zur Kenntnis nehmen

➡️ wahrnehmen, beachten, offiziell wissen
German: „Vielen Dank, wir nehmen Ihre Rückmeldung zur Kenntnis.“
English: (“Thank you, we acknowledge your feedback.”)

🔹 in Kauf nehmen

➡️ etwas Negatives akzeptieren
German: „Für die Qualität müssen wir eine längere Lieferzeit in Kauf nehmen.“
English: (“For the quality, we have to accept a longer delivery time.”)

🔹 Rücksicht nehmen auf

➡️ achten auf, berücksichtigen
German: „Wir sollten bei der Planung Rücksicht auf das Team in Zürich nehmen.“
English: (“We should take the team in Zurich into consideration when planning.”)

🔹 Stellung nehmen zu

➡️ sich äußern zu
German: „Können Sie bitte Stellung zu diesem Vorschlag nehmen?“
English: (“Could you please comment on this proposal?”)

Neulich hat mir eine meiner Studentinnen erzählt, dass sie eine Online‑Präsentation für einen Kunden halten muss.
Sie sollte die Plattform erklären, durch verschiedene Funktionen navigieren und live zeigen, wo man klicken muss.

Und dann kam der Satz, den ich so oft höre:
„Ich weiß genau, was ich machen muss… aber mir fehlen die Wörter dafür.“

Also habe ich ihr eine komplette Liste mit Laptop‑Vokabular vorbereitet — alles, was man braucht, um souverän durch eine Präsentation, ein Meeting oder einen Bildschirm‑Share zu führen.

Und jetzt teile ich sie auch mit dir.

Recently, one of my students told me she had to give an online presentation for a client.
She needed to walk them through the platform, explain different features, and show where to click.

And then she said the sentence I hear all the time:
“I know exactly what to do… but I don’t have the vocabulary for it.”

So I prepared a full list of laptop vocabulary for her — everything you need to guide someone confidently through a presentation, meeting, or screen share.

And now I’m sharing it with you too.

Neulich im Meeting: Jemand präsentiert eine Idee, alle nicken… und du denkst dir nur: „Hm, ganz überzeugt bin ich nicht.“

Aber wie sagst du das, ohne unhöflich zu wirken?
Genau dafür habe ich heute ein paar meiner liebsten deutschen Formulierungen gesammelt — höflich, klar und absolut business‑tauglich.

Denn Widerspruch muss nicht laut sein. Er kann respektvoll, professionell und sogar verbindend wirken, wenn wir die richtigen Worte wählen.

In Business German, Nomen-Verb-Verbindungen with bringen are very common.

They often sound more formal and precise than simple verbs — which is why you hear them so often in meetings and emails.

Here are some essential bringen-combinations you should recognize and use at work:

▪️ zum Abschluss bringen
→ abschließen | to finalize
Wir müssen das Projekt bis Ende des Monats zum Abschluss bringen.

▪️ zum Ausdruck bringen
→ ausdrücken | to express
Er brachte seine Bedenken klar zum Ausdruck.

▪️ unter Kontrolle bringen
→ kontrollieren | to get under control
Die Kosten müssen schnell unter Kontrolle gebracht werden.

▪️ in Schwierigkeiten bringen
→ verursachen | to cause problems
Diese Entscheidung könnte das Team in Schwierigkeiten bringen.

▪️ in Gefahr bringen
→ gefährden | to endanger
Zeitdruck darf die Qualität nicht in Gefahr bringen.

▪️ zur Sprache bringen
→ ansprechen | to bring up / address
Dieses Thema sollte im nächsten Meeting zur Sprache gebracht werden.

As the year comes to an end, I want to pause and say thank you.

It has been a great pleasure to work with so many inspiring professionals this year. Together, we celebrated new jobs, promotions, and successful client deals — but also the quieter wins: overcoming the fear of speaking German, joining small talk with colleagues, or feeling confident enough to contribute in meetings.

This year also brought new challenges. With rapid changes in the job market and AI transforming entire roles, many career paths suddenly felt less predictable. And yet, you kept going — learning, adapting, and investing in yourselves.
