If I speak in tongues, both earthly and angelic, but do not have love, I am nothing but a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, if all mysteries are revealed to me, and if I possess all knowledge, if I have faith to the highest degree, so that I can move mountains—if I have all these gifts, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all my possessions to the poor, if I am even willing to give my life and be burned alive, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
