Lo mejor no siempre viene de Europa o EEUU
Satyendra Nath Bose was born 122 years ago . This Bengali-Indian physicist co-developed Bose-Einstein statistics and is the namesake of the “boson”!
Bose studied mathematics and quantum theory before joining the University of Dhaka as a researcher and lecturer. While at Dhaka, he submitted a paper to the British journal, ‘Philosophical Magazine’, on Max Planck’s quantum radiation law, using a novel way of counting the states of identical particles. When the paper was rejected, Bose sent it to Albert Einstein, who, recognizing the importance of Bose’s work, translated the paper into German and recommended it for publication in the prestigious ‘Zeitschrift für Physik’. Einstein later built on Bose’s ideas about particles to develop Bose-Einstein statistics, which they applied more generally to atoms. This also led to the predicted existence of the Bose-Einstein condensate.
Bose's paper was well-received by the scientific community and led to his work with renowned scientists such as Einstein, Marie Curie and Louis de Broglie. In 1954, already a fellow of The Royal Society, Bose was awarded the second highest civilian honour by the Government of India: the Padma Vibhushan. Five years later, he was appointed National Professor of India, the highest honour in the country for a scholar. He held that position for 15 years.
