In 2005, in a small office in Granollers, Barcelona a group of engineers started working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). We quickly discovered the great potential that these technologies had to offer, not only to our organization but also to other organizations and institutions related to them. In consequence, we decided to train our staff in order to familiarize them with these innovat

ing and upcoming technologies. In conjunction, we were developing their own driver, for water systems analysis, capable of connecting GIS software and water systems management and mathematical modeling solutions software. We have decided that the best option for this driver would be open source with the collaboration of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. The new perspectives which were offered due to our mind set change brought then into the stage of abandoning traditional engineering services in order to concentrate in the development and implementation of the new software solutions and the training of our users. There is a lot of interest from different organizations and administrative bodies in our country and in Latin America which like to improve their water management using open source solutions of high performance.

Aquest dissabte vam canviar, per unes hores, els ordinadors, els projectes i les reunions per piscina, vòlei, barbacoa, jocs i, sobretot, molt bon rotllo! 😎

No hi érem tots, però els que hi vam ser, amb famílies incloses, vam gaudir d'una gran jornada plegats per donar la benvinguda a l'estiu com cal. 🏖️

Perquè fer equip també és això: compartir moments fora de la feina, riure, competir una mica (només una mica... 😜) i gaudir de la companyia.

BGEO no tanca per vacances! Seguim al peu del canó durant tot l'estiu, mentre l'equip va marxant i tornant per gaudir d'un descans merescudíssim i carregar piles. 🔋

🇨🇴 ¡BGEO estará presente en el Congreso Andesco 2026!

Del 23 al 25 de septiembre, Xavier Torret participará en uno de los más importantes encuentros del sector de los servicios públicos, que se celebrará en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

Durante el congreso, estaremos presentes con un stand compartido con Baseform, desde el que podremos presentar nuestras soluciones y conversar sobre innovación, digitalización y gestión eficiente de las infraestructuras del ciclo del agua.

Será también una excelente oportunidad para reencontrarnos con profesionales y organizaciones del sector, estrechar los contactos que ya hemos iniciado en Colombia y Latinoamérica, y explorar nuevas vías de colaboración.

BGEO at Novatech: Advancing OPRA for Urban Water Innovation 💧

This week, BGEO had the opportunity to take part in Novatech, held at the Saint-Paul campus of the Université Catholique de Lyon, a remarkable urban and architectural transformation of the former Lyon penitentiary.

Over four inspiring days, the event brought together innovation, research and knowledge exchange in urban water management, while also providing valuable insights and a clearer roadmap for the next steps of the OPRA project, supported under the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership (DUT) programme, with national funding support from CDTI – Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación (Spain).

On Monday, 29 June, Xavier Torret and Cláudia Rodrigues participated in the OPRA project workshop, a valuable opportunity to meet several consortium partners in person, share the project context, align perspectives and strengthen the collaborative foundations for the work ahead.

Tuesday and Wednesday were dedicated to technical presentations and poster sessions, offering a broad overview of current research, practical approaches and emerging solutions in stormwater management, urban resilience and sustainable water systems.

The programme also included a Gala Dinner at Les Subsistances - formerly a 17th-century convent that later became a military barracks - where participants had the chance to connect in a different setting. The evening also included the Thierry Maytraud Awards ceremony, recognizing outstanding contributions across 3 categories: Regional strategies, Urban renewal projects and Multi-stakeholder engagement and support.

We return from Lyon with valuable insights, a stronger sense of direction and a clearer roadmap for the next steps of the OPRA project, as well as renewed motivation to keep contributing to innovative and sustainable solutions for urban water challenges.

Thank you to the Novatech 2026 organization (graie, OTHU and the Metropole of Lyon), the OPRA project coordinator, Katharina Tondera, our consortium partners and everyone who contributed to making these days such a valuable experience.

BGEO a la XVIII Assemblea General del Catalan Water Partnership 💧

Ahir es va celebrar la XVIII Assemblea General del Catalan Water Partnership a l’Hotel Marina Badalona, i BGEO va ser-hi present.

En el marc d’aquesta Assemblea, Xavier Torret, soci director de BGEO va ser escollit vocal de la nova Junta Directiva del Catalan Water Partnership. Rebem aquest nomenament amb molta il·lusió i responsabilitat, ja que reforça el nostre compromís amb la col·laboració, la innovació i el desenvolupament del sector de l’aigua a Catalunya i més enllà.

Aquest nomenament té un significat especial per a nosaltres, ja que BGEO forma part del Catalan Water Partnership des de l’any 2015. Durant aquests anys, hem tingut l’oportunitat de créixer al costat d’un clúster que ha esdevingut un referent en la promoció de la innovació, la cooperació empresarial i la internacionalització del sector de l’aigua.

Durant la sessió es van abordar diversos punts rellevants per a l’activitat del clúster, incloent-hi la benvinguda del president del Catalan Water Partnership, la presentació de nous socis, l’aprovació de l’informe d’activitats de 2025, la presentació de les activitats previstes per al període 2026-2027, així com l’aprovació dels comptes de 2025 i del pressupost de 2026.

L’Assemblea també va incloure el balanç del mandat i l’elecció de la nova Junta Directiva, seguida de la conferència «Innovar: què està canviant? Com podem augmentar la qualitat de la innovació amb la combinació d’intel·ligència humana i artificial?», impartida per Alfons Cornella.

La jornada va ser clausurada per Miquel Sàmper, conseller d’Empresa i Treball de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

Des de BGEO volem agrair al Catalan Water Partnership la seva dedicació constant i la seva tasca per generar oportunitats, impulsar projectes col·laboratius i crear espais de connexió entre les entitats associades.

Seguim treballant per contribuir, des de la tecnologia, la innovació i la col·laboració, als reptes presents i futurs del sector de l’aigua.

Learning, sharing and connecting at Young Water Professionals Milan 🇮🇹

Today, Estela Torres Serrano and Arnau Urgeles Arribas conclude their participation in the Young Water Professionals event, held at Politecnico di Milano, Italy.

They had the opportunity to present their work and discuss their posters with other young professionals from the urban water sector:

Arnau Urgeles Arribas presented “Giswater: An Open-Source GIS Platform for Integrated Urban Water Network Management”.

Estela Torres Serrano presented “GIS Based 1D/2D Flood Modelling in Manresa using IBERGIS: A Replicable Workflow for Urban Climate Resilience”.

It has been a highly enriching experience, not only to share BGEO’s work around open-source GIS technologies for water management, but also to learn from many other young professionals and exchange good practices across the full water cycle.

Throughout the event, a wide range of topics were addressed, including drinking water treatment, emerging contaminants, membranes, wastewater treatment, resource recovery, sensors, AI-based models, and many other key challenges shaping the future of the water sector.

Estela and Arnau return to Barcelona with new ideas, valuable insights and a strong motivation to share what they have learned with the team, as well as to continue contributing to a more innovative, collaborative and resilient water sector.

👏 Congratulations to both for representing BGEO and for bringing open-source water innovation into this international space.

Acabamos una semana muy intensa en Panamá.

Josep Lluís Sala y Natasha Vivas, parte del equipo de BGEO, hemos tenido la oportunidad de presentar nuestra empresa y compartir las soluciones tecnológicas que impulsamos para la gestión eficiente del agua y las infraestructuras, entre ellas Giswater.

Para Natasha, además, esta visita ha tenido un significado muy especial por poder compartir este camino profesional en su tierra.

Han sido días muy enriquecedores, enlazando reunión tras reunión y manteniendo encuentros con instituciones y entidades clave como la Autoridad Nacional de los Servicios Públicos - ASEP, Programa Saneamiento de Panamá, la Universidad Santa María La Antigua - USMA, la Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá - UTP, la Autoridad del Canal de Panamá - ACP, el Instituto de Acueductos y Alcantarillados Nacionales - IDAAN y el Consejo Nacional para el Desarrollo Sostenible - CONADES.

Queremos agradecer sinceramente el tiempo, la atención y el interés de todas las personas con las que hemos compartido conversaciones, ideas y visión de futuro. Ha sido un verdadero placer conocer de primera mano los retos y oportunidades que afronta Panamá en materia de digitalización, gestión del agua e infraestructuras.

También ha habido tiempo para reencontrarnos, compartir conversaciones y unas cervezas con viejos amigos que actualmente residen en el país. ¡Un fuerte abrazo para todos ellos!

Un agradecimiento especial al Ingeniero Ricardo Alberto Cerrud, del MINSA, por su apoyo, cercanía y por facilitarnos tantos encuentros durante estos días.

Panamá nos deja grandes sensaciones, excelentes conversaciones y nuevas oportunidades para seguir construyendo alianzas y colaboraciones de futuro.

Y esto continúa.

Próxima etapa: Colombia 🇨🇴

Los próximos 3, 4 y 5 de junio estaremos participando en el Congreso de ACODAL, donde además tendremos la oportunidad de compartir una ponencia y seguir impulsando la transformación digital y la innovación en el sector del agua.

Mientras Xavier Torret participará en el Congreso DAQUAS en Madrid , os esperamos en nuestro stand! En todas partes y al mismo tiempo!

BGEO estará presente en el congreso DAQUAS del 3 al 5 de junio en IFEMA Madrid, un punto de encuentro clave para los profesionales y entidades vinculadas a la digitalización y gestión eficiente del ciclo integral del agua.

Durante el evento compartiremos el junto con AVENTEC y la Giswater Association, donde presentaremos diferentes soluciones tecnológicas orientadas a impulsar la innovación, la gestión avanzada de infraestructuras y la toma de decisiones basada en datos.

Además, aprovecharemos esta cita para dar a conocer los servicios de BGEO y presentar nuestra plataforma más reciente: B360, una solución concebida para ofrecer una visión integral y eficiente de la gestión de activos y datos en el ámbito del agua droplet

Será una excelente oportunidad para compartir experiencias, generar sinergias y seguir impulsando el ecosistema open source aplicado al sector water utilities.

👉 Servei d’implementació i adequació de la plataforma Giswater, software de gestió amb tecnologies lliures, bases de dades i sistemes GIS, adaptat a les necessitats de la gestió de la xarxa d’aigua potable municipal.

✔️ La implementació i posada en marxa de la plataforma Giswater (programari lliure) ja és una realitat, consolidant-se com una eina clau per a una gestió moderna, integrada i eficient de la xarxa d’aigua potable.
