Parlotea

Parlotea I’m a Spanish native teacher based in Valencia, Spain. I offer private, online and corporate lessons. I started Parlotea in 2013.

If you’re looking to start your Spanish language experience, or work towards improving your level of Spanish, contact me today. Since then, I have taught a range of students including working with organisations such as Valencia Club de Futbol or Masia Tennis Academy. I have degrees in Media Communication and Spanish Language & Literature (University of Valencia, Spain) and also postgraduate studie

s in teaching Spanish as a foreign language (University of Valencia – Instituto Cervantes). My native languages are Spanish and Catalan and I’m fluent in English and French. This really helps me as a teacher because I have experienced the challenges of learning a language so can better understand my student’s needs. I have also had experience living abroad, so know what it’s like to settle in a new country with a different language and culture. My lessons are all tailor-made and I prepare them according to my student’s needs. Whether you are moving to Spain or learning for business, travel or academic purposes, I will design a plan that works for you. I provide students with all lesson materials and use a range of interesting and inspiring resources.

The first stop in our road trip was Évora, the historic capital of the Alentejo region and a UNESCO Human World Heritage site. Despite de suffocating heat we were able to wonder around its well-preserved old town centre and visit the Roman Temple and the medieval cathedral.

The most impressive sight was the Bone Chapel, the biggest one in Portugal. In total, there are around 5000 human skulls in it, among numerous bones. Scary and sinister bit definitely a must of the city!

“La casa del moro, por fuera de barro por dentro de oro” (the Moor’s house, the outside made of mud the inside made of gold). This is the saying the local guide told us about riads, the traditional Moroccan mansions, and couldn’t have been more accurate. When you go through its modest doors you will discover magnificent old palaces.

Many riads accross the country have turned out in boutique hotels or guesthouses.

Riads have an inner courtyard and the windows of each room face into the patio. in line with the Islamic idea of privacy and inward reflection. Riads aren’t large establishments and many have less than 10 rooms, but each one is unique.

In Fes we stayed at , a riad managed by a Belge family, with just 5 rooms. Located on the upper floor, our room (named Casablanca) had a private balcony facing the courtyard.

We also loved breakfast at our riad. Simple but tasty and fresh. Moroccan bread, exquisite jams, local pastries, fruit, honey, fresh juice and homemade yogurt. Yum yum!

Fes medina can seem like it’s in a state of perpetual chaos. People going back and forth, thousands of shops, cats everywhere, twisted alleys and blind turns. Navegation is quite confusing and getting lost at some point is a certainty and also part of its charm.

You can also feel like stepping back in time. Donkeys cart goods down the warren of narrow streets as they have done since medieval times. And chicken wait at the back of the shop for being slaughtered.

Trades are still present at the souks and it’s easy to spot carpenters, smiths, taylors, shoemakers or dyers working at their small workshops.

Day 3. Volubilis - Moulay Idriss - Meknes (Morocco).

We left Fes this morning and drove to Volubilis, the most impressive archeological site in Morocco. Its most amazing features are its many beautiful mosaics preserved in situ. Just amazing!

We enjoyed the agricultural landscapes and the whitewashed town Moulay Idriss.

We finished our getaway to Morocco by visiting the imperial city of Meknes, where we got lost (again) while wandering the narrow streets of the Medina.

Fes, Morocco. Day 2.

And ancient breeding ground for scholars, artisans and imans, Fes is known as the cultural and intelectual city of Morocco. We visited today some of its Medersas, the theological colleges (pictures 5 and 6), with magnificent carved plaster, cedar wood and colorful tiles.

We also visited the tanneries, one of the city most iconics sights (and smells); and the most impressive of the country.

We finished an amazing day in Fes trying some delicious dishes of modern Moroccan cuisine. Yum yum!
