🤖✍️ Expatriator Q&A Series: Social Security Application for the Digital Nomad Visa
👋 Welcome to the Expatriator Q&A Series, where we demystify Spanish immigration law! Today's question:
"How can I apply for social security for the Digital Nomad Visa?"
🔎 A complex issue, but here's the breakdown:
💡 Usually, you can't register with the Spanish Social Security system until after you've arrived in Spain. However, for the DNV, you need to provide a Certificate of Social Security coverage from your home country or a commitment to register with the Spanish system upon arrival.
For employees, your employer should provide a letter stating their commitment to register you with the Spanish Social Security system once your DNV is approved. If you're self-employed, provide a written statement of your intent to register as an autónomo upon arrival.
💡 Spanish authorities understand that certain requirements can't be fulfilled until after you've arrived in Spain. A commitment to fulfill these requirements is typically accepted for the DNV application. However, it's always a good idea to consult with a gestor or immigration attorney.
