Still thinking about last night…
Whisky, ci**rs, stories — and a room full of people who, for a few hours, just slowed down.

We started with the soft warmth of Kujira 10 Years from Okinawa — all rice, sea breeze, and patience. Then Benrinnes 11 Artist Collective, a whisky that tastes like art itself. Followed by Finn Thomson Glenallachie, bold, deep, honest. And we closed with Compass Box Delos — pure poetry in a glass.

It’s funny… I spent years collecting bottles, and now I find the real joy in opening them — in sharing.
Because whisky only means something when it’s part of a moment, when it connects people....

¿Amor o rechazo absoluto? Si hay algo que despierta pasiones en el mundo del whisky escocés, es la turba.

👉 Pero… ¿qué es exactamente la turba?
Es un material vegetal fosilizado, acumulado durante miles de años en tierras pantanosas. Cuando se quema para secar la malta, libera un humo denso y aromático que impregna el grano de compuestos fenólicos, dándole ese característico sabor ahumado.

🌪 Notas que puedes encontrar en un whisky turbado:

Humo de leña
Yodo y sal marina
Medicinal (sí, a lo botiquín)
Barbacoa, cuero o alquitrán
¡E incluso tocino o bacon en algunos casos!

📍 ¿Dónde reina la turba?
Aunque se puede usar en cualquier región, es en Islay donde la turba se vuelve protagonista. Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Lagavulin… son templos para los fanáticos del humo. Pero también hay joyas turbadas en las Highlands (como Talisker o Ardmore) y en otras zonas que están explorando este perfil.

⚖️ No todos los whiskies turbados son iguales:
El nivel de turba se mide en ppm (partes por millón) de fenoles. Un whisky suave puede tener menos de 10 ppm. Ardbeg o Octomore superan los 50, ¡incluso los 100!

💡 Tip para los curiosos:
Si nunca has probado uno, empieza con un estilo “peaty light” como un Highland Park o un Caol Ila suave. La turba puede ser intensa, pero también elegante y misteriosa.

🧠 Y lo más curioso…
Tu cerebro asocia esos aromas ahumados con recuerdos muy personales: una chimenea en invierno, una hoguera en la playa, una curita en la infancia… Cada sorbo, un viaje.

🤣😉This is the exact expression I make when someone tells me they still think all whisky tastes the same. 😜Neon tongue out, inner whisky geek activated.

☝️Because behind every bottle, there’s a story, a place, a cask, and a wild idea that someone decided to age for 12+ years just so we could argue about whether it tastes like banana bread or burnt toast.

It’s not about drinking. It’s about decoding the dram.

☝️Scapa has always been ahead of its time… and here’s proof.

⏳️In 1959, they installed a Lomond still — a rare type of still designed by chemical engineer Alistair Cunningham and draftsman Arthur Warren for Hiram Walker.

🚀Unlike traditional pot stills, the Lomond had adjustable plates in the neck, which allowed distillers to control reflux — basically, how much the v***r condenses and re-distills. This meant more control over the spirit’s character, producing a lighter and more refined whisky.

💥Though the plates are no longer used today, their influence helped shape Scapa’s unique, elegant style.

A little piece of whisky engineering history — still felt in every sip.👏
