The cost of electricity to consumers in Mexico has been on the upward trend in recent years, while investment in generation has been stagnating. As a part of the major reforms to the Mexican electricity sector initiated by the reform act of 2014, the Market and System Operator – CENACE – ran its first a competitive tender process (“auction”) for long-term capacity (supply of electricity) in the country – entirely from clean energy resources – from December 2015 to March 2016. The results of this auction were wholly successful in not only attracting a broad participation from developers worldwide, but also in the award of the full capacity on offer to renewable projects, at highly competitive prices.
Today, Mexican government is launching the second round of this process and MRC is well positioned to provide assistance to potential bidders using the experience gathered during the first round.
