🔥 Why heat the whole house when you’re only using part of it?
These photos show a real underfloor-heating manifold upgrade we’ve been working on — and they’re a good example of why proper heating zoning can make such a difference to both comfort and running costs.

The manifold is basically the distribution point for the underfloor heating. Heated water arrives at the manifold and is divided between the individual pipe loops serving different areas of the property.

With a correctly designed zoning system, room thermostats communicate with the controls, which operate electric actuators on the manifold. When a room needs heat, the relevant actuator opens and allows water through the loop or loops serving that zone. Once the room reaches temperature, the control can close that zone again. This is exactly the principle used in Uponor multi-zone systems.

🏠 So what does that mean for the homeowner?
Instead of treating a large villa as one big heating zone, you can have much more control over where and when heat is delivered.
Bedrooms can be set differently from living areas. Guest rooms don’t need to be kept at the same temperature when nobody is using them. Living spaces can be comfortable in the evening without unnecessarily overheating other parts of the property.

That can mean:

Heat pumps work best when the whole hydraulic system, water flow, temperatures and controls are designed correctly. Closing too many zones on a badly designed system can actually create problems.

That’s why we look at the complete system — heat source, manifold, actuators, thermostats, controls, flow rates and the way the property is actually used — rather than simply fitting a thermostat in every room.

💡 Good zoning isn’t about making the heating more complicated. It’s about only putting heat where it’s wanted, while keeping the whole system working properly.
